Midnight Vice (Reissue)
Midnite Vice

Midnight Vice are a NWOTHM (New Wave Of Traditional Heavy Metal) band hailing from the depths of Tampa's underground Metal Scene. With a sound that pays tribute to the legends of the 80's metal era. Formed in 2020 by vocalist Tyler Grey and bassist Lakota Stafford, after a few line up changes Sam Bean and Dennis O' Sullivan the bands line up was completed. They started to write their own Heavy Metal anthems, whilst rehearsing in hot sweaty warehouses sharing a lot of interests in certain bands but at the same time having different musical backgrounds. This new and upcoming music scene produced bands like Skull Fist,Enforcer,Ram and Cauldron in the first wave, with Midnight Vice coming out of the second wave possibly on top of it.
This EP was originally released in 2023 digitally, but now thanks to Roar is now available physically on CD and Vinyl.”Strike In The Night” is full throttle from the opening to the end Tyler Grey's voice, his range and falsetto just grabs your attention, combined with the fast paced tempo and velocity of the melody.”Spellcaster” is a more mid tempo heavy affair, the riffs are heavy, the drums and rhythm ferocious as hell.”Excalibur” picks up the speed again and so far you can hear the influences of the old school Metal shining through how hard those drums are hit and how fast, heavy and ferocious those guitars are played, the solos and also those high pitched metal vocals.
”Baptised By Fire” is heavy but gives me more a Skid Row Slave To The Grind or Subhuman Race feel and track style with it's less heavy riffing tempo and melody, with the excellent range of Tyler Grey's vocals.”Mysteria” is the most commercial sounding track on this EP ,but fear not! Still heavy, with those high pitched vocals.”Deliverance Of Steel” is the weakest offering on this EP it sounds more like they are dipping one foot into Sleaze Metal in some parts of the track due to the sound of the melody, but in latter stages of the tracks normal service is resumed.”White Witch” is of course a Savatage cover which of course pays tribute to one of Midnight Vice's influences and the reason for NWOTHM making a resurgence with the young musicians and music fans today.
With the reissue of a physical version Midnight Vice might reach a wider audience and so will the comeback of Old School Metal. There is some good tracks on this EP and the singer has a great metal voice, with great range which fits this genre perfectly. Hopefully a glimpse into the future and hopefully good things to come from this band, with a full length album in the not too distant future.
