Home is where the heart is; and the metallic heart beats like a drum the time that classic Metal music is heard. MIDNIGHT IDOLS belongs to the category of bands honoring the original Heavy Metal ideals. Hailing from the USA (Seattle), the quintet had already released two 'private' albums in the recent past - We Rule The Night (2006) and Nightrulers (2008) - prior to inking deal with Metal On Metal Records for the pressing of their third one herein presented.
Not much to be said, though; the Metal On Metal label is now familiar to metalheads keen on the 80s Metal models and the MIDNIGHT IDOLS album is no exception. While listening to Sworn To The Night names of bands like early MAIDEN/PRIEST, CHASTAIN, ACCEPT, early SAVATAGE, SAXON and even MERCYFUL FATE paraded in my mind. The sound/production is quite dirty and so is Diamond's voice (a bastard mix of Dianno and Grimmett - he could do even better, I think, since he finally sounds somehow flat and uninspired). The songwriting, on the other hand, is quite intriguing, with some notable classic Metal riffs and a helluva great work in the leads section. The bass/drums duties are rather typical but honest to the bone.
Powerful tracks like Hatred Is Born, Triumph Of The Sinner and Beyond The Darkness cut like a knife while the whole songlist is available to feed your Metal needs by any means. Good thing with the album is that the more you listen to it the more you may fall for it, something rather weird since this blend may appeal to be typical enough to many. Thankfully, MIDNIGHT IDOLS merge the European and American instructions fine enough and combine them to a good result bearing the genre's 'classic' limits.
Sworn To The Night is an album you can obviously live without but probably is worth spending some money instead of feeding the grand 'names' again. MIDNIGHT IDOLS are in the Metal map now and, with some sufficient distribution, have the potential to exchange this loyalty for classic Metal with some wider recognition. Let's just hope...
