Nature Morte

Their brand of Doom is sparkled with psychedelica at times, and I believe I got a full vision of the album from five songs. The final result is that their sound is hopelessly dreadful, in every good sense of those words.

Little is known about this band from Belarus…Ashen Tree Records says the following phrase about their record label, “Ashen Tree Records is a place for distinctive art vision and experimental music without any prejudices.” The album has five songs, and “Kola” is first. It’s low, buzzing, and rumbling, and has a crawling pace, barely registering as “music,” and more like dissonant chaos. The guttural vocals are so low that they rumble within the cockles of your very soul. The shrieks however lift the song up, so that your nearly dead body can take a breath or two. “Pustazelle” is a bit stronger and firmer, but still moves at a snail’s pace, and pushes a good deal of dissonance. What the band has painted thus far on the album is a picture of utter desolation, like a country after nuclear bombs have destroyed it. Nothing grows.

“Malimon” us much shorter…and darker. It reminds me of the kind of music that might preceded a torture session. Eerie, frightening sounds abound, and they just hang there together with tension. “Volya” is another lengthy offering, beginning with vocal screams and dreadful guitar notes. It continues, with a buzzsaw riff that keeps the song as horrid as possible, and the screams bring the previously dormant album to life. “Pry`py`nak” closes the album; a four-minute distortion laden song that takes advantage of that harrowing atmosphere the band is trying to build. This was an interesting album. Their brand of Doom is sparkled with psychedelica at times, and I believe I got a full vision of the album from five songs. The final result is that their sound is hopelessly dreadful, in every good sense of those words.
