MATALOBOS is a Melodic Doom/Death metal band that started in the fall of 2014 in Leon, Mexico. Their main influences were bands like MY DYING BRIDE, ANATHEMA, KATATONIA and so on. "Until Times Has Lost All Meaning" is their third release so far. The EP is only around twenty minutes, but is definitely a wonderful twenty to spend listening to this great piece of art. So lets begin our dark journey into MATALOBOS'S "Until Times Has Lost All Meaning".
The first song "Of Ghosts And Yearning" is a ten and a half minute masterpiece. It begins with beautiful acoustic riff that melds into a deep electric riff. It truly is what I consider a perfect Doom riff. Dante's vocals hit right off the bat with a deep but clear Death Metal scream. I absolutely love the vocals on this track. They blend acoustic and metal with the best of them. I dare say they remind me of OPETH during their "Deliverance" days mixed with MY DYING BRIDE. The second song "In Flesh Engraved" starts off with powerful guitar work by E. Santamaria and German N. The drum work performed by C. Escalona really stands out on "In Flesh Engraved". It's really difficult to pull off a song over four or five minutes without it seeming too long, but they managed to with this great track.
Finally we end with "La Luz Del Dia Muere". I love every second of this song. Everything is laid out really well. It's a very melancholic ending to a great album. I will be listening to this album for a long time to come. I look forward to hearing more from MATALOBOS in the future.
