The Greatest Divide
Marble Ghosts

This is the second EP by the Gatineau, Quebec based quartet. MARBLE GHOSTS may have one of the most unique and innovative name I have ever heard in my life. Backed by the Asher Promotions banner, they are ready to conquer the local scene (and beyond) with their uncompromising mish-mash of styles. So we have a death metal drummer, an old-school metal bassist, a singer heavily influenced by 90s grunge, and a metalcore guitar player. In all walks of life and all matter of genres, they are able to create a homogenous sound while mixing everything and anything from their previous influences as musicians and music fans There is a strong message in their lyrics, there is something quite the constant. They talk about the distance between the rich and the poor and how that is not getting any better, while the poor get poorer and the rich getting rich. We have to cope with a cruel world that even working will not get you fed or housed, the cost of living as gone through the roof while the owners of apartment complexes and whatnot are boosting the prices to get the poor to dish out even more of their hard-earned money. The lyrical content is heavy but very mature for such a young band on the scene, an honest approach to make every word count.
If I would suggest one song when speaking about the profound lyrics, ,look no further than ''Eat the Rich'', a straightforward banger with something ot say about greed and power and how it affects the people at the bottom of the totem pole. The message driven across is loud and proud, it's something we don't usually get nowadays but glad bands like MARBLE GHOSTS go above and beyond and speak about situations we are live through in a world torn asunder. The band embodies a certain type of angsty, dynamic youthfulness that has remained throughout changing musical tides of this album. No song left unturned per se, all songs do not sound alike and each has a purpose, a message to the listener out there. Distancing themselves from the norm, they’ve are not stricken of even the most residual likability of the radio-rock set, they dive deep in their arsenal of tricks with their varied influences to create a sound of their own without such compromise that has come to many bands of the genre throughout the last several decades.
We are living in pretty divided times and this is explicitly displayed right from the get-go with the single “Distance Between” A strong opening, it is heavy, furious, and sets the mood for the rest of the record. An intense album you can listen to over and over and still find cathartic release of angst, anger and outreach. This is a solid brand of high-octane alternative rock mixed with an old school metal vibe.
