Merciless Storm
Malicious
From Bandcamp, “MALICIOUS have only become more unhinged in the meantime. Witness the four-song “Merciless Storm.” Tauntingly titled once again, “Merciless Storm” picks up right where Deranged Hexes left off, but sees the Finns following a natural progression in all aspects. With a runtime of 11 minutes, it's mercilessly/mercifully short and sweet, upping the violence and aggression to levels impossibly beyond that nuclear-powered debut album.”
The title track is first, and it’s a chaotic and aggressive affair without a lot of structure. The production is over on the treble side of things, and the sound is a bit amateur. “Invasive Terror” is similarly fast, and the band seems hell bent to just ram right over all obstacles and shove this sound down the listener’s throat. There isn’t very much substance to the album, that much is sure. “Ambient Sonic Annihilation” is more of the same. Although the music is indeed merciless, there just isn’t much to champion.
“Chronic Quake” closes the album, and you guessed it, more of the same. In such instances, my main criticism on an album like this is that it is very short, and might as well just be one song, because all of them sound similar. Besides their energy, there is very little else to talk about here.
