Atonement
Lost in Existence

When asked about the concept behind the artwork, they explained: "In a few words, we wanted to represent existential drowning and, ultimately, in contrast, "Atonement" works as the blossoming of an idea, a change of concept, which continues to flourish. The band also gave some insight into the sound and creative approach of this new chapter: "We could consider this EP as a transition in essence a bridge towards a more modern and melancholic style. It was also a challenge for us, to test whether we were capable of not remaining outdated and instead redirect our sound into something fresher, unique, and contemporary."
The album has five songs, and "Iridescent" is first. It refers "something that shows luminous, rainbow-like colors that seem to shift and change," and that hits the nail on the head. The music is both melodic and pleasing at times and punishing and brutal at others. It is always shifting, and the guttural vocals are done in the Deathcore style. "From the Outside" is another hardened slab of compelling Metal but it also breathes. You have to separate the two like pieces of candy that are stuck together to get to the sweet tasking core. "Shameful Sigh" begins with a pleasing dose of melody, and the whispered vocals are emotive. Tortured vocals occupy the background, but don't take over the melody line that the band rides out.
"False Gods" is a very dense three minutes that focuses on the harder side of the album. The riffs are crushing, the vocals raging, and the sound is filled with roots that run deep. There is still a strong dose of melody in the song, and you can use it to guide you through the darkness. "Atonement" is the final offering, and fittingly, it brings both the punishment and the melody in equal doses. The lighter moments really allow the raging ones to sink in. It's that contrast that keeps the music alive and energetic. I could do without the "bleghs," but it was a solid listening experience for me. They have the talent and the vision…for next time, I would take a few more chances to help create that distance from their peers.
