Blues For The Dead

The LONELY KAMEL's case is not a new one: a few jam sessions in a friend's basement, back in summer of 2006 were the coping stone of the kamel's birth. Here, you may notice that the camel is written with a 'k' and not with the common 'c', but this bizarreness follows them into the music too. This quartet from Oslo, Norway, inspired by classic hard rock mixed with blues from the golden era, spreads some dirty, heavy blues tunes with clear references to stoner/ space rock genre, explaining the vintage style in their entire acoustic/ visual (art)work. I don't think I said to you something new, anyway; look carefully the album title, it's already there: "Blues For The Dead", man!
Here, you'll find ten tracks, meticulously saturated with American bourbon, preferably a southern one, and mixed with the most psych, hallucinogen mood you've ever met. The opening "A Tale Of A Mad Man" succeeds to get you directly in the LONELY KAMEL's 'acid' world with the original Scandinavian reference to bands like SVARTEPAN and MAGNOLIA and some of the Hendrix vibe, capable to blow your mind up. On the other hand, you'll meet some more American and groovy acoustic approaches, in "Green-Eyed Woman" and "Lady Mushroom" for example, where the groovy sound goes on with 'its dalliance' with the solid riff solos and the mature psychedelic color of the early 70s. It's true that Thomas Brenna readings have the ability to travel you back in time and the rattle drums fit just perfect.
This album though, is dedicated to the blues: "Stick With Your Plan", "Blindfolded" and "The Boys" are little pieces of the modern blues heaven and bring us in mind so many glorious artists-guarantees like Duane Allman and Warren Haynes. Guitars come by flesh and bones and the only thing we can do now is to wish watch LONELY KAMEL live and enjoy their skills. But the best is left for the end: the 10-minute "The Trip" (and my personal favorite) combines all the main characteristics of the Norwegian band with so much easiness, confirming absolutely the song's title and making us want for more.
You don't have to try so much to have some fun via music, especially if you think yourselves lovers of the vintage, heavy blues sound; two spoonfuls of psychedelia, a slice of blues, the second LONELY KAMEL album in one of the two different vinyl versions* (till the next one, that is preparing right now in the studio) and some drops of bourbon - a good one. After all, that's the LONELY KAMEL's truth, babe: 'Blues, grooves and a bottle of booze'!
*: the third, clear green vinyl edition is already sold out at the time that these lines were written.
