LIVING WRECKAGE is a super-group of sorts, comprised of members from band such as DEATH RAY VISION, ANTHRAX, SHADOWS FALL, DOWNPOUR, and DEFIANCE. This is the band's debut effort, and it has nine songs. "One Foot in the Grave" is the first. I love the opening melodies and build up to the main part of the song. But the main sound, not so much. To me, it sounds like a cross between Alternative Metal with come harsh vocals thrown in every now and again. But the main riff is pretty simple. Jeff has a good voice, but the music needs work. "Blind Reality" has an energetic riff but really doesn't bowl me over in any way. The solos are fantastic in this song, but that's about all it has going for it.

"Out of Time" is a rougher song with some crunchy rhythms and harmonic leads, but they need to extend these leads over more territory, because the sound in the verses is pretty thin. Again, the leads are great, but the thin rhythms cause the suffering. "Breaking Point" is another energetic song...you can't fault the band for putting their best foot forward when it comes to the tight precision in which they play. It's mostly the uninventive riffs that are the problem. "Sink Below" is a mid-tempo song that moves with another elementary riff. "Mark the Days" is another song with a great vocal performance, and even some strong backing vocals, but the simple riffs kill it dead in its tracks.

"Endless War" closes the album. It's not terribly melodic, and focused more on harsh vocals and a rougher edge. When you think about the genre of Metal, there are really only three ways a band can win over fans...either with great hooks and melodies, incredible musicianship, or pure brutality that can move the listener on a physical level. Although the band has moments of brilliant musicianship. They weren't able to string together a memorable album. The best part of the album might be Jeff's versatile voice, his energetic performance, and the production...but the rest...not so much.
