Unwell
Liminal Spirit

The band's music is characterized as "séance music from a restless spirit." My goal with this record is to explore ideas that represent some of my greatest fears. Given my previous experience in nursing homes from a former job, I can tell you they are the most miserable places on Earth, and I would hate to spend my final days there. I also couldn't imagine the loss of my own faculties and have a lingering fear of spiritual judgment when passing on to the next plane." The album has five songs, and "Admittance" is first. The opening tones are dissonant, and somewhat wandering. It slowly pieces together, but like a broken vase, the pieces are hard to reassemble. The bottom end is contentious, and lead breaks wail overtop, but it's hard to get a sense of where the band is going with this sound.
"Unwell" is another dissonant offering, and this sound barely registers as music. I understand that you have to give every artist the freedom to create what you want, but I am having a hard time being able to find a suitable audience for this. In many ways however, this might just be the sound you would hear in a nursing home…a dull, dreary place where old people go to die. "Visiting Day" might be the day that you dread the most…the staff probably puts on their greatest effort to show you all the nice and caring things that they do, but the faces on the residence read otherwise. Again, many of the tones are just…dissonant, and they give the listener an unsettling feeling. Because it's visiting day, a fraction of the tones are less harsh, but overall, it paints a desolate picture.
"EOLC" swings back to the heavy dissonance of the first two songs. It means "end of life care," and that is nothing I would ever want to experience. The jagged, discordant notes of the song serve as a reminder of this hell. "A Better Place" is the final offering, and curiously, rather than portraying some positive tones, the dissonance continues. I believe this is reflecting the notion that everything you have been promised about "moving onto a better place" is a load of shit. Although I struggle to find an audience for this album, it is noteworthy that the subject matter is strongly reflected in the music, and that is no easy feat. I would characterize this is something for Metal fans who think outside the box and don't need to be spoon fed the typical Metal sound.
