LES CHANTS DE NIHIL are a black metal band from France. Forming back in 2007 they ae no strangers to the black metal scene nor are they strangers to the studio having released their first demo "Les Six Leçons" the following year in 2008, their second demo "De La Gloire" in 2009 along with EP "Ma Plus Douce Vermine", all before coming out with their debut full length studio release "La Liberté Guidant Le Far" in 2010 before returning to the studio the following year for their second record "Propagande Érogène" in 2011before giving themselves a break from the studio for four years and coming back with their third record "Armor" in 2015 and their fourth record "Dix Ans Et Demi De Lutte Contre Le Mensonge, La Stupidité Et La Sobriété" in 2017 and are now back and are starting off 2021 with the release of their fifth album "Le Tyran Et l'Esthète" via Les Acteurs De l'Ombre Productions in January.

This album is packed with nine black metal tracks created by a the heavy guitar riffs and dark, demonic sounding vocals of Jerry and Mist combined with the hard hitting intense drumming of Thomas and held together by the solid bass playing of Youenn to create the bands intense sound. Before the band released their fifth full length record, they only released one single prior to the albums release, the albums second track "Entropie De Conquêtes Éphémères" which was released in December 2020 prior to the release of the entire album in January 2021.

The album is opened by a two minute instrumental track titled "Ouverture" which the shortest track on the album. It's a very uplifting track as it builds up and transitions listeners perfectly into the second track and only pre-release single "Entropie De Conquêtes Éphémères".

"Entropie De Conquêtes Éphémères" (English = Entropy Of Ephemeral Conquests) is a much longer and much more intense track then the one that came before it. Picking up where the previous track left off for a seamless transition before a very brief pause as the drums where introduced and the intensity level was raised instantly from an uplifting instrumental to a dark, demonic, screaming vocal tone and fast paced drumming shows just how versatile this album can be and is a great place to start listeners on their journey through this nine track full length record.

The albums longest track is the title track "Le Tyran Et L'Esthète" (English = The Tyrants And The Esthete) which is powerhouse track clocking in at just over eight minutes in length on it's own. It's very intense from start to finish with a very well placed and powerful guitar solo it the middle to break up the track nicely. This track involves a lot of traditional sounding drums which is an interesting sound for a black metal record but it works well to create a musically chaotic powerhouse track.

Having listened to this album in it's entirety, I can say it is one for black metal fans to keep an eye out for, the tracks aren't as long as black metal tracks traditionally are, but they are by no means short either, this album is very intense and definitely one to look out for if you're a black metal fan and this is definitely one to keep an eye on in the future
