Infection

Lenax

The album was just mediocre for me, and it didn’t do enough to distinguish itself from the thousands upon thousands of other bands that are out there playing this style of music. It was an honest effort, but the final result just fell short.

LENAX is a US based band that blends aggressive and melodic elements of old school black metal with cosmic horror themes. The album has nine songs, and “Worship Hymn” is first. IT sounds very close to what is advertised…the vocals start with deep gutturals and progress to high pitched screams, and the music is quite harrowing. The speed and pacing vary as well. “Chains” has a bit more of a traditional sounding riff, although it is still pretty thick. The riffs aren’t overly creative, but I am feeling their vibe. “Crossroad Black” has a slow, and frightening start, as tension hangs in the air like the morning fog. What follows from there can best be described as ominous feelings, like the world is coming to an end. “Hive Mind Apocalypse” has another traditional riff. It’s Black Metal, mostly because of the  vocals, but it’s not accompanies with that wall of sound you often hear.

“We Are Legion” has an evil entrance, but it is short lived, replaced by throaty vocals and a steady riff, with audible bass notes. For me, this song is like an anthem for the album. “Plague Bringer” has deep and harrowing tones, and a faster pace. I like that you can hear the bass notes, this is something that is not often true in Black Metal. They help to thicken up that aggressive bottom end. “Overdrive” is an instrumental, and reminds me of early IRON MAIDEN, especially in the bass work. It’s a power driven song. “Throne of the Forsaken” closes the album, and it has a raucous energy. It slows to a more steady and horrifying sound where the riffs work in unison with the vocals. Overall, the album was just mediocre for me, and it didn’t do enough to distinguish itself from the thousands upon thousands of other bands that are out there playing this style of music. It was an honest effort, but the final result just fell short.
