Later Sons - Rise Up album cover

From their EPK, The LATER SONS are on a time travel through decades of rock and AOR from the eighties to today. They deliver songs with lots of hit potential and fine hook lines which do not sound dusty or old-fashioned. Actually, they sound exciting throughout the record. The compositions on "Rise Up" meet a contemporary production and mix. Authentic sounds by authentic players and lovers of the rock genre. Experienced artists who know their business." The album has 11 songs.

"We Better Run" is the first. The riff is relatively simple, but the hooks are effective, and the vocal harmonies are nice. The pacing is a bit slow however and it keeps the excitement down. "Never Surrender" has a faster pace, but the verses are quite thin. The bass guitar parts are nice, and the leads are very well done, but the band has to find a way to thicken up their sound. "Follow Your Dream" is another mid-tempo song. I have always maintained that this is one way to keep an album from getting off the ground...too many of these paced songs.

"Last Freedom" has a tender sound, and even though it is another mid-tempo paced song, at least the hooks sound fresh, and the vocal harmonies are on point. Maybe the album is getting back on track. "Family Affair" has a rougher edge to the riff and some sleaze appeal. Unfortunately, it is another mid-tempo song. "Hometown Girl" is an improvement. This time, the hooks are sharper and the riffs more memorable. Keyboards also add a missing touch for the first time. "Eye of the Storm" also has a more memorable sound, and the album is improving. That chorus finally has the big punch I was waiting for.

"Good Times, Bad Times" closes the album. It has a smooth and sexy sound with a strong message. Overall, the album lacks that big AOR punch that is synonymous with the genre, and unfortunately, the hook lines do sound dusty. The best part of the album is the vocalist and the lead guitarist. But there are too many mid-tempo songs, and the album needs thickening up, especially in the verses.
