Last One Dying - The Hour Of Lead album cover

A cover artwork filled with zombie warriors (or whatever kind of monsters they are), a guest appearance by the legendary Jeff Mantas Dunn (ex-VENOM)... It all seems too Death Metal to me. But as we know, looks can be deceiving and this rule proved to be right once more. LAST ONE DYING is not exactly what I expected. What the fuck is Mantas doing in a German Metalcore band?

Not that it is a bad thing, but it definitely is kind of weird. Anyway, we won't be able to know before we listen to the album. The band's debut full-length album to be more precise, since the only release before The Hour Of Lead was a self financed EP in 2006. Let's see what this quintet can do.

As you may have already understood, my opinion on this Metalcore trend is not the best it could be. The fact is that this German band managed to make me listen to the album many times and not get bored. Based mostly on Heavy Metal melodies, catchy choruses and aggression, these guys have managed to create an album that may not be the best this genre has ever seen, but it surely is a more than decent release that will please Metalcore fans and will become a fine addition to their collection. They have worked a lot on presenting vocal melodies that will stick into your mind, though I guess that the clean vocals could use some improvement. The guest appearance by Mantas comes to complete a nice album that shows a band with great potential.

If LAST ONE DYING work a bit on the clean vocals and present an album with a bit more clean and heavy production, I think that we will be talking about a band that will sell a respectable number of copies.
