Nowhere In Between Forever
Lantlos

Not much is known about this enigmatic band. From their Bandcamp page, here are some notations: LANTLOS are a musical chameleon. As one of the very first Post-Black Metal bands and co-founders of the scene, their premier releases clearly belong to that genre. With their second offering ".neon" (2010) – the first with Neige from ALCEST as vocalist and band regular, LANTLOS even released a central album of Post Black Metal, considered by many to be a work of reference for that style." They return now with their newest effort titled "Nowhere In Between Forever." "Daisies" is first. It has an energetic and aggressive sounding riff, but the vocals are smooth and harmonized. In a way, it reminds me of the American band ASTRONOID, who may have borrowed from his style. "Cherries" has a fun-loving rhythm and pleasant melodies. It could easily be something you hear on the radio. I picture being outside on the first warm day of spring, taking in all the sights and smells and just smiling.
"Oxygen" is faster but still pushes bright melodies from start to finish. He uses electronica, even some auto-tune, but the music is great. Smooth vocal harmonies echo between your ears and it's just catchy and fun to listen to. "Jeanet" reminds me of video game music, but whatever you call it, Marjus just has a natural talent to compose melody with hooks. The music is pretty linear, in that once you grab ahold of a thread, it's easy just to follow it through. "Numb TV Superstar" is another winner, another song that is just pleasing to listen to. I haven't heard even a shred of darkness on the album yet. Indeed, he just wants to make you feel good as a consumer. It's tinged with just a bit of 90's Alternative style. "Solar Death" was the first single, and has a slower pace that allows you to breath in the song fully. The music is on the firm side at times, but the vocals are dreamy.
"AutoGuard" is both energetic and uplifting. Sure, the drums are probably programmed but who cares? This is just so much fun to listen to. "Planets" is another electronic piece of warm sun rays on your face. The music can sweep you away to a place you can only dream about, and a place that has no pain or troubles. "Ghost" is the first dark-ish song on the album. It's a bit of a wolf in sheep's clothing. "How can you live this way, next to him?" he asks, and that immediately brings up some conflict. Some might even call the somber sound depressing in a way. I find it oddly attractive. "Clockworks" is a weighted song that has a heavy bottom end that runs underneath ethereal melodies that shoot into the sky. "Windhunter" is the final song, and it ends the album on a warm note. It has a full, rich, and heavy sound that is a light as a feather and as hard as dragon scales at the same time. The contrast is striking.
You may ask yourself, why is this band signed to Prophecy Productions, a largely Metal label, when this music is pretty far away from that label? The answer is, of course, because they can. Prophecy Productions has always been able to find artists like Markus out there, and they don't really care about genres. Just listen to the album, and you will find secret boxes that have gold hidden in them, overflowing with pleasing melodies. On the first warm day of spring in NorthEast Pennsylvania, this album is just the panacea that I needed today. Simple, but exquisite.
