Wide Open Sky
Landfall

Landfall from Curitiba Brazil were formed by childhood friends Felipe Souzza and Marcelo Gelbcke who have been playing together since they were 15 years old. Some years later they were joined by Thiago Forbeci on bass who added new input and influences but at the band decided to go in a different direction. Under the name Wild Child the band released three albums, performed several concerts around Brazil including opening up for Glenn Hughes. In 2017 former Auras singer Gui Oliver joined the band and they began writing songs for their first album “The Turning Point” released in 2020 on Frontiers, with album number two “Elevate” in 2022.Now here in 2025 album three on Frontiers “Wide Open Sky” is released with Landfall considering this album their best so far.
The album starts in Melodic style with “Tree Of Life” which has an air of optimism & positivity within the lyrics ,with an anthemic chorus and catchy melody ,riffs and groove, ”SOS” more edgier than the opener more a hard rock track with heavier riff & melody. with a great emotional vocal delivery from Gui Oliver. ”When The Curtain Falls” is another powerful song lyrically and musically which is a standout track on the album for me. “Running In Circles” along with the fantastic first single “No Tomorrow” and “Coming Home” add an edgier, heavier element with some Marcelo Gelbcke delivering intricate guitar riffs and razor edge runs.”A Letter To You” which is the power ballad album of the album, again Gui Oliver shines with his superb vocal range. Although Landfall are predominately Melodic and AOR influenced they expand on their musical talents with “Hourglass” which seems to lean towards a Prog influenced theme along with the title track “Wide Open Sky” more mellow breaks in the songs, with plenty of breaks of light and shade melody and tempo with synth touches. A pleasant surprise and a welcomed change in musical direction to show how versatile Landfall can be.
Landfall deliver a very solid release, which definitely avoids the dreaded third album curse! There is plenty of variation in musical styles on this album to listen to appreciate, There is some superb song writing ,with great musicianship with some catchy song melodies, groove with some great production. Highly recommended album out now on Frontiers Music.
