Lana Lane - 10th Anniversary Concert album cover

Lana Lane is the case of an artist rarely known to most countries, while at the same time enjoying good success in e.g. Japan. Bearing in mind a) she's American, b) her label is Italian, c) her style/sound has a lot to do with stuff from Britain and/or Scandinavia, this is what I'd unquestionably call 'globalisation', huh...
Born in Concord, CA, USA Lana met her husband-to-be Erik Norlander (multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer) in LA in the late 80s. Instead of 'digging' at the usual 'Hair Metal' stuff of that time,  guided by Norlander's advice/help, Lana spent some time to release her first album - Love Is An Illusion (1995, Avalon Marquee) - in great delight for a subsequent impact in the Japanese market. The flagship for Avalon, from then on, Lana put out a set of prominent albums with esteemed recognition in the Land Of The Rising Sun, while Europe started keeping an eye on her.
Cooperating with famous musicians like Tony Franklin (The Firm, Blue Murder), Mark Boals (solo, Ring of Fire, Yngwie Malmsteen), Arjen Lucassen (Vengeance, Ayreon), Vinnie Appice (Black Sabbath, Dio) and Kristoffer Gildenlow (Pain Of Salvation) for her solo works, Lana also lend a helping hand to Ten's mainman Gary Hughes for his Once And Future King concept opus, while also guesting at Lucassen's Star One project.
Some hints for the lady's music should have already been given. Dealing - mainly - with Symphonic/Pomp 'metali-sque' Hard Rock, Lane Lane gives lots of credit to pompous keyboard melodies (in the vain of Uriah Heep, early Styx and Magnum with some 'space' oddities) while the guitar harmonies focus on both the aforementioned bands' 'formula' added by some of Ten's middle-based 'aura', while some classic Heart(!) elements are quite obvious. As for the drummer, Ernst Van Ee (Highway Chile, Helloise, Vengeance), he struck me hard with his powerful and trustworthy performance.
Celebrating her 10-year-career in her own band, Lana Lane filmed this live show in Tokyo, Japan in front of a dedicated fan crowed. Dissent fairy vocals, appropriate 'atmospheric' performance by all musicians - Erik Norlander leads the band - and a general 'magical' vibe sum it up to a very good concert for the faithful. Well, Blackmore's Night could sound this way if Ritchie decided to turn the distortion again on, adding 'twilight' keyboard backups. In deeper thought, Lana Lane also deals - in a weird way - with Celtic/medieval melodies also. In a 'weird' way, I repeat.
Apart from the bonus audio CD of the show - two songs omitted, due to time length restrictions - there's also some bonus footage on the DVD disc, depicting Lana and the band on the road during their 2005 European Tour. Footage from the 'flourishing' Sweden Rock Festival is included (my, oh my...).
To sum it up: Ten, Star One, Magnum, Uriah Heep, Nightwish (did I mention 'em above?), Edenbridge (them, too?), Styx, Blackmore's Night, Heart are the names you should deal with, in this release. Apart from Lane's fans, who already grabbed the DVD, tick your beloved ones from the list and proceed at clear logic.
