KXM - Circle of Dolls album cover

You cannot discuss class, career and achievements, but you can discuss the results once you put together those elements. If you are not familiar with KXM, they are a supergroup formed by drummer Ray Luzier (KORN), bassist/vocalist dUg Pinnick (KING'S X) and guitarist George Lynch (LYNCH MOB and ex-DOKKEN), and, having said that, I think they do not need any kind of introduction: you should know who they are. If not, look at the story of rock, because with their bands they made that. I love KORN, I love KING'S X, I am less familiar with LYNCH MOB but I liked DOKKEN back in the day, and George Lynch is a hell of guitarist, so my expectations were sky high. But I couldn't be more disappointed, unfortunately.

I will tell you the main reason, and to do that, I will go back in time with an example, the genre does not fit, but the concept is the same: I fell in love with "... and justice for all" from Metallica, and, apart from the music, of course, the main reason was the lyrics: every song had a delightful refinement, where every verse was different from the previous one, touching diverse topics, without resulting boring at all, and actually being always a new surprise. Then it was the Black Album, where there was a small pauperization in the lyrics but still being quite rich and enjoyable, and then came "St. Anger", where each song was done putting together three words and repeated till nausea, with my big disappointment. Long story short, this is how I see also this "Circle of Dolls": good songs (which IMO was not the case in the previous example), well composed, well played, brilliantly produced but a really poor work on the lyrics, resulting in a meagre overall result, which makes me really more disappointed because of the big caliber of the musicians involved.

I have checked also other reviews on the web, and most of them are really positive; because of that, I have listened again and again at the album, and, although musically speaking is brilliant (as you would expect from those big guys here), I still do not like it, I do not really appreciate it; maybe my limit, but that's it. Take for example the title-track "Circle of Dolls": after an interesting intro, it goes in a vicious circle with the lyrics, that looks never ending. I do not see an exploit or something that will mark the track in my head, in a positive way, except the chorus repeated thousand and thousand times. I won't mention any other song, since they suffer, always IMO, of the same defect, except, maybe only partially, in the single "Time Flies". Sorry guys, I would never expect me to give such bad marks to those legends, because those people are legend, but you have to like what you like and to say what you think. And this "Circle of Dolls" for me is not sufficient.
