Přílišnost

Kostnatění

This was a delightfully wicked album. Mostly on the harrowing and frightening end of the genre, the industrial sounds gave the album an edge like a razor sharp blade, designed to plunge you in the chest and pull your organs out.

From Bandcamp, "Přílišnost (Excess)," the third album by KOSTNATĚNÍ, thoroughly destroys any remaining comparisons to the band's contemporaries. Following up on 2023's critically-acclaimed "Úpal" and its blend of technical black metal with Middle Eastern folk, KOSTNATĚNÍ has packed into this bizarre base an even stranger array of influences that must be heard to be believed. The band's signature "highbrow" progressive riffs, now played on a uniquely alt-tuned guitar, cleverly interweave with a mix of "lowbrow" metal genres and moody synthesizers to create the band's heaviest, most compact and violent songs to date. Continuing with the band's introspective themes, "Přílišnost (Excess)" is dedicated to the suffocating, destructive pursuit of self-perfection. Lyrically and musically, it pushes beyond all limits.

"Dokonalé křišťálové město" is first. It sounds like Black Metal that has been twisted, and perverted, with a harrowing and heavy Industrial edge. It's a fast mover that doesn't slow at all with intensity. "Křehký bůh" is even more weighted, from a massive, colossal riff, and some added dissonance. There are also some deep, solemn tones amidst the madness. "Zpět ke kmenům" is a pedal to the metal song that burns like an accelerant poured onto an already raging fire, and the band nearly loses control of the song. Somehow, almost impossibly, they hang onto the reigns. "Mrtvola Jupitera" throws some psychedelica into the mix, along with eerie leads, and meaty bass notes. I can't decide if I am dead, or in a torture chamber somewhere. "Samotář" has a slower pace, and here you can really pick up on the filthy production on the album, and I mean that in the best way possible.

"Znal jsem tě" uses heavy, industrial drum thuds, incredibly low bass notes, and eerie leads along with the tortured vocals. I feel like if I stay too long in this song, there might not be a way out. "Dále zvenčí" sees the bus filled with undead careening across the highway and taking out overhead signs, light poles, and every car in its path. The guttural vocals sound like them come from a beast, and not a man. "Přílišnost" is the title track, and the final song on the album, and it bears claws and teeth that go straight for your throat. There is so much blood, you can't tell if it is from you or just left over from the recent sacrifices in the room. This was a delightfully wicked album. Mostly on the harrowing and frightening end of the genre, the industrial sounds gave the album an edge like a razor sharp blade, designed to plunge you in the chest and pull your organs out.
