Korpse - Insufferable Violence album cover

KORPSE hailing from Bussum, The Netherlands were formed in 2013. They play a mix of Goregrind, Deathgrind, and brutal Death Metal. Some members are also active in bands with similar genres such as Floor van Kuijk (FOCAL DYSTONIA, CARNIFLOOR) or Robin van Rijswijk (CADAVEROUS). "Insufferable Violence" is the third full-length album and it was released via California label Unique Leader Records which has a number of Brutal Death Metal and Deathcore bands among their roaster. The album has a length of more than 28 minutes.

"Insufferable Violence" starts with a very powerful and dark intro before it transitions into the title song and from there onwards, hell breaks loose and KORPSE celebrate the very best that brutal Death Metal has to offer: flesh-ripping guitar riffs, crunching bass, hammering drums, and brutal growls at the low end of the guttural vocal range. The tempo is fast with mid-tempo breaks. "Insufferable Violence" was also released as video and the YouTube link is given below. The title song seamlessly transitions into "Disposable Underaged Objects" thanks to the added cinematic sample. The song has even more brutality and aggressive guitar riffing than the opener and Marten van Kruijssen blast-beats and double-bass drums are of highest quality. The song has a few mid-tempo breaks with hardly any leads. "Disposable Underaged Objects" introduces a down-tempo sequence at the end of the song and serves perfectly as transition to "Self Preservation" which has more frequent down-tempo parts. The song starts at mid-tempo but there is soon a blast-beat outburst that leads into a short passage of insanity and madness where the interplay of guitars, bass, and drums sounds a bit chaotic. The down-tempo part sounds like being straight from hell with a hammering bass line before the end of the song.

While the first four songs were all very well connected, the next few songs differ from each other in rhythm and structure. "A Final Lesson" is played at breakneck speed with pummeling drums interrupted by short down-tempo breaks. "Genocidal Bloodbath" on the other hand is a typical mid-tempo song played at classical head-banging speed and powerful and somewhat catchy guitar riffs. This does not take anything away from the aggressiveness in sound which is especially maintained by Sven van Dijk incredibly brutal vocals. "Callousness" is another song played at insane pace with a mid-tempo break in between. The middle part includes short lead guitar sequences and a bit more technicality compared to the rest of the album. What I did not like here is the fading out of the song. I never like that but it is my personal taste only.

"Molestation Condonation" is another example of the perfect mixing between highly paced parts with chaotic riffing and drumming on the one hand and down-tempo parts on the other hand and KORPSE is so brilliant with that. The instrumental "Epochs Of Melancholy" concludes the album and it is perhaps the darkest and most doom-laden song on the album. For the first time, KORPSE utilize a lead guitar throughout the song and it sounds brilliant. This time, the fading out at the end works well and I even liked it a bit.

"Insufferable Violence" continues to establish KORPSE in the league of brutal Death Metal. Their sound is authentic and KORPSE developed their own character as a band. The songs on the album are too similar at times. While that was fine during the first four songs due to the way how the songs were interconnected, it is a weakness when looking at the whole album. "Insufferable Violence" sounds a bit one-dimensional and many songs are not distinguishable from each other. KORPSE have shown their capability of good songwriting with songs like "Epochs Of Melancholy". The album is very well produced. Fans of brutal Death Metal will like what they hear and "Insufferable Violence" should belong to the album collection of fans of that genre.
