Requiem
Korn

KORN have released the new album "Requiem" on Feb 4th 2022. The band who hail from Bakersfield, USA have written and performed a banging new set of 9 songs. The album has slow and faster songs and elements of the older KORN we all know and love as well as a mixture of newer feeling vibes. It is of course recognisable immediately as a KORN album which has the essence of the bands blood running through it from start to finish. The new album is full of emotions running deep as always it is a fine piece of work by the band. The lyrics are fresh & captivating. The music has classic KORN but new blood to listen to within the beats.
The new album opens with the song "Forgotten" which is a raw and gritty track. The music in this song sets the pace for the rest of the album. It's a song that makes you wonder if all your efforts are good enough or if they will just end up being forgotten by those who you've sought to find the meaning in. It's like being in a toxic relationship & no matter what you say or do it's just not making any difference to the situation as a whole. "Start The Healing" is song number 3 on the new album Requiem." It's a banging tune! This is a song about pain. Not just pain but breaking away from pain & of course starting the healing process. When your in pain through emotional constructs, then you hit rock bottom the only way you can go is back up - ergo you must start the healing in order to regain a sense of normality again.
Moving on to song number 5, we have "Disconnect." This is a song about duality in emotion, there's no hiding from the pain suffering and anguish that's felt deep inside. One gives you the power to fight what your feeling inside while the other makes you want to run and hide, to take cover & flee from the situation but the problem is that no matter where you run to - you can never run from yourself. "Penance To Sorrow" is song number 7 on "Requiem." Again it's an emotional number, as is the entire album! "Penance To Sorrow" is a knife in your heart, it's the cut that just won't heal. J.Devil's giving it large about the fact that you can't run from yourself or your pain sometimes. This is about hitting that rock bottom place in your soul where you wonder if there's anyway to climb back out again. It's a scary, dark and haunting place to be.
Song number 8 on "Requiem" is called "My Confession" and it's another banging song about scary places in your head. The confession to ones self is almost harder than the confession you give to others sometimes. When the infection takes hold of your mind it can seem that it might be impossible to eradicate again. It can truly parasitic to the soul. The depths we sink to at this stage can feel intolerable. Closing the album is a song called "Worst Is On The Way." The track gives us the feeling that your trapped with no way out again. Your running around the darkness trying to find an escape route to take but not being able to find one. The mind is in the dark and your heart is so heavy the pain courses through you veins. What can you do about it? Nothing, you must have the confidence to see this shit through and climb back out of the pits.
Overall, the album is a fucking amazing production & compilation of thoughts and feelings written into expression and sent to the fans as an understanding that only you can save yourself from your own darkness. The album has been written through J.Devil's addiction to antidepressants and the suffering that accompanies addiction. KORN are a band that have helped me see through my own demons of addiction in the past, I have ever lasting gratitude to KORN for all the albums they have written over the years as they connect with me on such a personal level, as I'm sure is the case with a lot of fans. I don't have a single bad word to say about "Requiem." The album is classic KORN but with an all new fresh sound and well thought of lyrics. The music in the entire album is on point and on the lyrics, what can I say except absolutely love them!
