KING ZEBRA unveils their highly anticipated album "Between the Shadows" released on April 12, 2024 on Frontiers Music Srl. The band hailing from the picturesque city of Zurich, Switzerland, emerges as the new face of rock in a harmonious fusion of youthful exuberance and veteran wisdom. They released the lead single and video "Dina" which offers a tantalizing glimpse into the energy and creativity that defines the album and promises to be a thrilling exploration of sound and emotion, encapsulating the essence of the band’s distinctive musical prowess. KING ZEBRA burst into the music scene with their 2019 EP and their sophomore release “Survivors” firmly establishing the band in the hearts of rock enthusiasts globally. Their presence soared as they graced renowned festivals like Rock the Ring and Rock of Ages, sharing stages with iconic acts such as LYNYRD SKYNYRD, URIAH HEEP and ROSE TATTOO. Opening "Between the Shadows" with pretty straight forward, no nonsense hard rocking formulated blueprint with “Starlight” and “Children Of The Night” which have all the right components locked in place as the leisurely paced tempo and beat mixed with playful riffs and pleasant vocals give an all too familiar sound back to the glam rock days. KING ZEBRA seems to be leery of stepping outside the box so far, let’s see if that changes as we move forward. Well, they most definitely stepped outside of the box and kicked me in the gonads for good measure on the next three totally explosive rockers “Wicked”, “Dina” and “Love Lies” as the hardcore slamming riffs take over and deliver that “thrilling exploration of sound and emotion” as they promised and the vocals take a more down and dirty turn with a more thunderous delivery and hard driving attitude. “Cyanide” comes out of the gates at pedal-to-the-medal breakneck speed that could wake the dead as the onslaught of head numbing riffs and savage vocals deliver a true headbanger. I get it now, the first two songs were like when you pick up your girlfriend at her parents’ house and put on the “nice boy” act but once you’re in the car and out of their sight, it’s “all right babe, party time”, as the remaining four tracks continue this onslaught of “kick ass” classic 80’s metal sound with killer axe work, infectious vocals and powerful, electrifying riffs with my favorite being “Restless Revolution” that ends the album on an accelerated soaring high.

Well, I guess I truly deserved that kick in the gonads, because "Between The Shadows" is a top-notch rocking effort by KING ZEBRA that hits on all cylinders, as the vocal work of Eric St. Michaels is complimented with the very essence of the fierce ferocity laid down by masterful guitar work and bolstered by the sharp, precise cybernetic rhythm section and beautiful harmonies.
