KING HELL is a band from New York that is trying bring back some old school Rock kind of elements. The music reminds greatly of Psychobilly fused with Metal or Punk. It is a very odd combination and I have only heard one other band that even did something remotely similar while sounding good, VOLBEAT. Stay tuned to see if KING HELL measure up.
The band began last year in New York. They have played around New York, but I think that is about it and all I could find about them.
To begin I thought this band had great packaging for its promo making it seems like a confidential document, but that is about where the coolness stopped. I found their music to be pretty bland a forced mix of Psychobilly, Blues, and Rock. I didn't find anything that positive about it to be honest. I think there songs sound very similar and that one of the vocalists has a very weird style. I would say it was Doc Thompson by the look of his promo photo. Another comment about the vocalist is that he embodies the opposite of what Danzig did with his vocals. Where Danzig had kind of an Elvis feel, I think this guy tries to hard to make a hard rock Elvis.
The music I thought would appeal to an Alternative radio crowd, but not to a Metal crowd. I found them to have a very punk feel to them rather than a Metal side. While the chorus for Shotgun did have a nice Metal-esque sounding chant to it, I just don't see it happening. There is riff that is kind of hidden in Assmaster, but that was kind of pushing it.
As I said these guys would do better with an Alternative crowd rather a Metal, so that's whom I would recommend them to. Personally they just aren't my cup of tea.
