Eternal Mistake

Karmamoi

This was an excellent album. It’s progressive in the sense of some odd chord progressions and a strong sense of timing from the band, but those qualities don’t take over the album. Instead, the band chooses to focus on a strong vocal performance, including building great harmonies.

From Bandcamp, "Eternal Mistake" is a story about love, but not the kind we expect. It's the story of a human and a humanoid, two souls reaching across the boundaries of logic and flesh, searching for something real in a world built on code and imperfection. It's about what happens when emotion meets reason, when empathy confronts design, and when the heart learns that even mistakes can be beautiful. Because maybe love itself is the eternal mistake, the one error we keep making, because it reminds us that we're alive. The band promises a deeply immersive experience, part concept album, part philosophical reflection, featuring powerful vocals, layered harmonies, hypnotic grooves, and a sound that feels both futuristic and timeless."

"The Regrets – Lara Is Your Name" is first. It saunters in with a rich, sexy pulse of electronica, combined with vocal harmonies. They turn it up in the chorus, with a big, catchy hook of melody. "Don't Knock on the Door" is broodier, with a slow-moving sound that is both melancholy and solemn. It's got an emotional punch as well, that approaches subtly but when it hits, I get CALIGULA's HORSE" vibes. "Nothing But" is a ten-minute opus that opens with sweet vocal harmonies and a distinct sense of hope. It's a smooth ride, that sometimes features hazards, but if you stay the course, you can make it through. "The Mirror – No Soul" has some strong vocals in the beginning, followed by orchestral elements, and it's another solemn song, "I have no soul, I have no heart, my mind if blank…" he muses. Some of the lead breaks here are excellent as well.

The title track might be the crowning jewel on the album. The vocals are very emotional, and he rises into the upper ranges at times. "The Question – We Are Going Home" is sentimental in a way. Home is for me, anyway. It's another song that features vocals as the main feature, along with a little piano and guitar. The vocals are harmonized, rich, and catchy. "HERO" has a very groovy rhythm that combines well with meaty bass notes. It also pushes a positive sound that's a nice break of energy when you consider some of the previous tones. "Passing Away" has an energetic sound that's another bright spot on the album. They ride it out like a Harley on a lonely stretch of road. "No Fucking Way" is the final song, and it ends the album on a rousing and fun stretch. It's blues-based rocker that just keeps pumping.

This was an excellent album. It's progressive in the sense of some odd chord progressions and a strong sense of timing from the band, but those qualities don't take over the album. Instead, the band chooses to focus on a strong vocal performance, including building great harmonies.
