From the beautiful Thessaloniki, Greece we have the band KAISAS that is releasing their 4th full album named Leria. According to some etymologists, te name of the album may be derived from the ancient Greek word “leros,” meaning “calm” or “peaceful.” However, they promise a hard rock in the style of DEF LEPPARD and BON JOVI. I hope they fail in this regard. Joking aside, we start the album with "Leria" that is just a musical introduction with corals and it's ok so far. Then “Sad Action” starts and I have to confess, is not the best unfortunately. The guitar/bass and drums are clearly not synced in the mix and are out of time. The quality of the recording is decent but the production is not. Not a good beginning.
We get a little better on the second track “Pretty Blonde” but not much. The lyrics also do not help. The tempo is again all over the place and the song structure does not make much sense. “(She Is Just So) Heavy Metal” is another attack to your senses and not in a good way. The lyrics are not inspiring and sound a campy as fuck. The album seems to be recorded in a hurry as you can hear so many flaws in every track. In addition to this, the riffs are poor and not memorable. The song that actually reaches anything close to a decent song is ‘Instant Spark”. With a nicer melody and backing vocals I can say that it is the best one of the album so far and this is not telling much. I have read that this album has 9 guest singers and I just noticed the change of vocals on the latest track. We continue our bumpy road with the also quite bad “Queen of Passion”. The recording is poor and the melody is memorable for all the wrong reasons. Another one that has a different vocal and almost reaches the average level of decency is “Birmingham Lights”. The vocals are a little better and the arrangement kind of makes sense (but not much) on this one.
I have to confess to the reader that I am doing my best and going through all the songs in this long 13 track album but I am almost giving up. “Glory & The Fame” is a little better as well and it has the best guest vocals so far. However, “By The Hart” is horrible. The majority of the singers are nice but the songs are terrible. Melodies all over the place and very basic and uninspired musicianship. Almost throwing the towel in, I found the best of the album so far. Is not 100% but it is like 80% there. “Never Gonna Get Enuff" has good vocals, is catchy and has a good melody. I just can’t believe my ears. And they have another one right after called “Crazy”. Good Hard Rock! It seems that I am listening to another album. The songs are far from perfect and the musicianship is still poor, but you can see the potential there, and the singer is also good. The album's last track is “Never Find Our Love” and is a poor ending to the album. There is also a “instrumental” called "Endless Heart" to close the album just like in the beginning.
These instrumental parts are much better than the majority of the album songs. I do not like to badmouth a band in their 4th album and I understand how hard it is to put an 13 songs album out, but this album listening was at some points, a painful experience. There are 2 songs that they could use the same style reproduced in the entire album like the good “Never Gonna Get Enuff” and “Crazy”. The rest of the album is forgettable unfortunately. The musicianship needs great improvement as well as it did not impress. Despite being the 4th album, a lot of work needs to be done. The album cover is represents the album.
