Self-Titled

KADAVAR is a Progressive / Psychedelic / Rock band from Berlin, Germany. Listening to KADAVAR, I hear a very distinctive BLACK SABBATH influence to the music. Wolf Linderman riffs have that Doom like quality made famous by legendary guitarist Tony Iommi. However, KADAVAR have made the SABBATH quality of their music rather unique by adding some psychedelic spice to it. I feel this separates them from SABBATH to some degree. The songs definitely have 70s vibe to them.
I have listened to this album a couple of times and just cannot seem to get BLACK SABBATH out of my mind no matter how hard I try. As far as debut albums go, this one is on the mediocre side in my opinion. The songs sound a lot alike to me and the main riff has the same guitar tone that gets rather boring fast. Nothing really stands out for me aside from the raw sound of the production, which gives the songs a somewhat raw and gritty tone, which I like.
I know next to nothing about the recording process of an album, but it sounds to me as if the band just setup their equipment in the studio and played with no special gear. Whether KADAVAR actually did this or not, I cannot say. I think KADAVAR will certainly make a name for themselves. I hope that their next offering has more variation to the songs. I would recommend that this album be given a few listens before making a final decision as to whether you like it or not.
