John West - Long Time No Sing album cover

This album could have been easily titled Set Me Free or something relevant. The reason? Well, let me just say that my opinion is that West is just killing time with his two bands - Royal Hunt & Artension. Both bands are ok but Mr. West sounds like a mercenary in them. Damn it, virtuoso players - you are not setting free a killer voice like this one!
Funny thing is that though West always was a Hard Rock singer, the last decade he's been having some really bad friendships with progressive acts. West started at the age of 14 when he got involved with the N.Y. Hard Rock circuit. In 1992 he moved to L.A. and became the vocalist of super act Badlands until the band's ultimate demise. Between 1997 and 1998 he released two solo albums entitled Mind Journey (1997) and Permanent Mark (1998) and started his collaboration with the Progressive Metal band Artension with whom he has released so far seven studio albums. In 1999 he also joined another band - Royal Hunt.
The album is obviously a vocal based, Hard Rock driven piece of work. Accompanied by two Savatage members, West is kicking serious ass with his talented voice. He easily balances between straight-edged Rock, Blues Rock, ballads etc. In fact there are a couple of songs that will bring the Badlands Era of West's life in mind (the song Give Me A Sign is a fine example to that). I also really liked Over My Head and Falling Down. But to be honest, the majority of the songs included in this album are really good.
Everything else is nicely balanced. Don't expect something that brings in mind the two major acts of this gifted vocalist. Oh, you might consider the last piece (Puetro Amor) as a connection link to them.
Now that the summer's kicked in for good here in Athens, I've found the soundtrack to my hot nights. Strongly recommended...
