JAWFANE are from Nashville, Tennessee, USA and don’t exactly play anything that can be even remotely linked to Country Music. The band saw the light of day on 28-02-2021 and have been trying to terrorize their neighbours ever since. What began as a group of friends secretly writing together has evolved into an immersive musical force that defies easy categorization. Though rooted in metal-core and hardcore sensibilities, the band refuses to be pigeonhole into a single genre. That is what it says on the EPK that comes with the debut EP “Me And All My Demons” and as far as I can tell in the 17:40 minutes I have top digest what is on offer, they are correct. It does transcend any single genre. I haven’t heard any of the singles that were released before this EP, so I have no reference to their past musical exploits.

Does that mean that JAWFANE is a jack of all trades? Not at all, but it does mean that listening to “Me And All My Demons” is an exercise in keeping your ears peeled for what, if anything, that makes the band stand out from all the other bands that try and mix and match. The main ingredients on this EP are Post-Hardcore and Metalcore, and to be fair, getting that right is a feat in itself. And I fear that though JAWFANE are trying very hard, I can’t seem to hear any songs that make me jump up in my chair, that make me want to listen again. In fact, as I have listened to “Me And All My Demons” during my walks with my two dogs I find that the EP has passed me by without alerting me to anything standing out. Nothing comes out trumps, but also nothing is overly bad. It’s all somewhere in between.

And that is the main factor why my rating for Memorability is so low. Because let’s face it, the musicians are more than capable, the vocals are really quite nice and the songs do have some merit if you look at some of the pieces. It’s just a fact for me that as those parts are put together it becomes like a bowl of dog food, one mashed up mess that is edible, but only for those who like that stuff. I’m sorry to have to end on this note, but for me this is just too bland.
