Only the Stars Know of my Misfortune

From Bandcamp, “"With a mix of post rock, shoegaze and depressive black metal, the soundscape unveiled by Georgia's own ISLEPTONTHEMOON is a moving experience to behold. “Only the Stars Know of My Misfortune” is pure emotion. Raw. Unfiltered. The music hits like a hot wire of traumatic life experience processed through embattled feelings where depression, anger and even moments of joy congeal into this vibrant union of musical styles. What you get out of the experience, is what you go into it carrying with you.” The album has six songs.
“Safety” is first. It begins unassumingly, with gentle and melodic tones from string and acoustic guitars. The vocals are dreamy, ethereal, and calming, and they envelop you with a sense of warmth. You get caught up in the sound so much that you really don’t hear the freight train coming around the corner. Even with the incense rage from screams, the melody and emotion in the song are not lost. “Dimming Light” has hardened, angry tones at first, but they are tempered with wondrous melodies. This song shows that there is light even in the darkest places of the abyss. “Maybe I Don’t Know it Yet, but Good Things are Coming Soon” is akin to trying to find a sign, or a light at the end of the dark tunnel, but try as you might, you just can’t see it. The tones are very hopeful though, and you know how the saying goes about hope…it might be the greatest of all things, and it is capable of pulling you off the ledge.
“I Belong to the Void” opens with a scene of sunshine, and warmth. It’s almost as good as that first warm spring day, the kind that renews your spirit. Trees bud, flowers begin to bloom, and all signs of Old Man Winter are gone. Even the ardent elements are thawed by the lustrous melodies. “Like Dying” strolls forward like a carefree day, the kind where you have no responsibilities and nothing planned. The roar of harsh vocals lifts a wave of destruction right in front of you, but you wall through it as if it was nothing. “Keep Hidden” closes the album, and like the first song, it enters gracefully, but not without solemn tones. The vocals are barely a whisper, and seem to come from someone who is all talked out. As it closes, you can't help but feel a deep sense of sadness.
“Only the Stars Know of my Misfortune” captures a potent fusion of light and darkness, expertly balancing the weight of despair with moments of resilience that feel like a defiant ember in the shadows. This album isn’t content to simply linger in melancholy or anger; instead, it persistently shines through, never letting the darkness consume it. It’s an experience of hopeful endurance and raw honesty, portraying resilience as not just an act of survival but as a quiet, steady courage.
