The Decline Of The Human Race

When INSANE THERAPY decided they would make music, I don't think they ever intended to do so with the notion that it would be pleasant or for the faint of heart. This lovely quintet from Pescara, Italy have put their time and energy into their latest release, "The Decline of the Human Race." Cited as a Deathcore outfit, they bear a lovely musical resemblance to the bigger names in the genre such as WHITECHAPEL and SUICIDE SILENCE. Their precedence has been set and this album follows the very heavy footsteps of those bands. If you love the sound of violence, breakdowns, high and low growls (with the occasional bree), palm mutes, open chords (plenty of 0's), and thundering drum segments, then look no further.
This band fits the Deathcore mold perfectly. While exhibiting all of the attributes so common in the sub-genre, they carry the torch of the pioneers who came before them (in fact, the intro to "The End of the Lies" sounds very much like WHITECHAPEL). Filled with anger and malice, each hard-hitting second will deliver a swift punch to the face and pummel the ears of the listener into submission! Want clean singing? Go listen to some Prog Metal. There is none to be found anywhere on or nearby this album. "The Decline of the Human Race" presents an extinction topic and the absolute violence in the music incinerates in my mind that perhaps the actual decline mentioned in the title was self-induced.
The total amount of music is respectable and the nine songs following the intro are each at least three minutes long. The breakdowns, though usually brief, use that beloved open note with a familiar use of the d-jent guitar technique. Minor chords and down-tuned guitars prevail to give the music that overtly heavy tone. The tonal presence of the vocalist gives me the impression that the possessor of that voice is about seven or eight feet tall, adding to just how monstrous the sound is. Take all of that and add some quality recording and production, and you have a result that stands alone as one that INSANE THERAPY fans will surely enjoy.
