Legions Awake

Today we have a band debuting their first full length release, entitled "Legions Awake". This release comes all the way from India, which for me is very interesting as I don't really see a lot of bands going into the Death/Thrash areas of music down there and I must say that this is a real treat for both myself and I would say for the fans as well, as we get to see another branch of the Extreme Metal tree spread even further.
"Incipiens"
Although not a song itself I feel that the record starts with a very well made introduction which really builds up and really takes hold. It gives the opening of the record a more sinister vibe which I really like as it feels like the opening to a movie which you can't get enough of. Still you don't see bands really take the effort to include these kinds of openers; well you do but not like this.
"Wake of Destruction"
Leaving off from the intro, the track begins with a similar tone and builds up as well, giving the listener something to look forward to. When the song starts to kick off, we see the tone become bigger and badder than before with crushing bass and guitar riffs which really come together perfectly and make the track stand out. As vocalist Gaurav comes in we see him take extreme vocals to a whole new level, both in volume and clarity. I have to say this guy really knows how to growl which to me is an indication of this guy's confidence as a vocalist and a frontman as well. Easily my favorite track off of the entire record though folks, check it out!
"Reflections of the Past"
With this track it has a similar opening style to the first track, except this time we see the guys take it slow and build it up in a whole new way which is keeping me on the edge of my seat. The song kicks in with force, and the track takes a whole new turn compared to the first track even though it takes on a groove-like tone mixed with crushing drum beats which are clear as anything which is just incredible folks. The tone this track takes is unreal and really demonstrates the band's ideas and inspirations as well as what they are capable of as a band that means business and is showing it. Everything this track displays gives us an idea of what to expect if ever watching them live. I feel if I ever get the chance to see these guys one day I will get the same quality of tone and ripping chords as we have right here.
"Realms of Oblivion"
Starting off fast and relentless, showing no sign of slowing down, flesh ripping sonic torment. These are the words that pop into my head when trying to describe this song in every way, and honestly that doesn't even do it justice folks. I mean what we have here is aggression at its best tossed together with a whole lot of don't fuck with me attitude. This is a pure and perfect combination of everything I love in music: it has this power to it which makes you want to let loose and punch the world in the face. Needless to say this as to be one of the heaviest and most tormented tracks on this entire record.
"Legions Awake"
Oh man, I mean what more can I say then this is a track you can thrash to in every possible way, showing some more of the band's set and tasty riffs mixed with some incredible drum work from Abhinav Yogesh the band's thunder and lighting. This guy can really play, I mean throughout the entire record this guy has been bringing to my ears pure bliss in the form of pulse pounding blasts that really make you want to groove to the tune. If anything this guy really deserves some high praise for his work on this record.
"Tainted Soils"
The way I hear this it sounds sinister as anything when it opens. It just sends chills down your spine like nothing else! It's a beautiful thing, it really is, but that's nothing compared to how the song opens in full. Like always the band brings chaotic relentless tones that really make you want to go mad and let loose. This though is the kind of music you play after a day's work or a class that really takes a lot out of you, it really melts away the stress by letting you tear every piece bit by bit off of you. One of the great things this song offers is great riffs from the band's twins of torment Chintan Chinnappa and Suraj Gulvady. These guys can really shred with the best of them and this track shows you just why.
"March of the Wounded"
Sounds of chimes and the restless wind howling, this is an eerie way of opening a track if anything, but then again with the tracks title it fits perfectly. The track showcases a combination of skill and imagination in every aspect of this track. Funny enough what I seem to enjoy the most is the way every instrument sounds like they're in total sync which is badass! To be honest, I think when you listen to this track alone you hear some very technical stuff going on here in both the guitar and drum work which goes to demonstrate just what this band is capable of as a whole engine.
"Existence Denied" (with Guest Solos)
Opening the track is some bits and bats of drum work which is different to be honest, from how we have approached this record. We have seen the band, even still the track is pure and heavy as anything and proves just that with the progressive scales that it showcases along the way showing just what they can do with time and patience on their side as well as some incredible skill and ideas, which really this song is as a whole. I feel that this track displays the band's best riffs as well as some of their stronger sounds which come together perfectly.
"Guardian"
Without a doubt I found this to be a great last track for a fantastic record: gentle and sweet, melodic and mighty, this track incorporates some of the band's best and comes together to form this titan of a musical masterpiece. Honestly in my personal opinion I find it hard to mix these elements as one while also keeping to this aggressive and relentless tone that crushes hard and continues to push forward as a power of its own kind.
So I really would like to say congratulations to INNER SANCTUM for creating this recording. Not only is this an achievement for themselves but it is one for musical evolution and so much more. I felt that through this record the band found a way of blending all of these different shades together as a whole and it works perfectly.
