Mind Trap
Inhuman Condition

INHUMAN CONDITION were formed in 2020 and they are from Florida. The Death and Thrash Metal outfit released so far two full-length albums and two EPs. Their third album “Mind Trap” was mixed by drummer Jeramie Kling and mastered by bassist Terry Butler at Smoke & Mirror Production. It has a length of about 31 minutes, and it was released via US label Listenable Insanity Records. The album has a strong and powerful start with the opening track “Severely Lifeless”. Thunderous guitar riffs accompanied by a lot of double-bass drumming drive the track forward at mid-tempo. The vocals are growls, which vary around the medium end of the guttural range with little tonal shifts in either direction. There are a few changes in tempo and rhythm throughout the track. The lead guitars contribute occasionally, but their impact on the track is vital. “Severely Lifeless” is altogether a good opening track. “Face For Later” has a frantic start with traditional tight Thrash Metal riffing. The track settles into a mid-tempo verse part, but it does not take long for a twist towards blistering pace. The vocals are mostly deep-lying growls and there are two guest vocalists with Paul Mazurkiewicz (CANNIBAL CORPSE) and Jamie Stewart (HOT GRAVES; THE ABSENCE).
“Face For Later” has plenty of Thrash Metal vibes especially with the guitar riffing and the track was released as video with the YouTube link provided below. “GodShip” is a track at a measured tempo with devastating guitar riffs and grim melodies, enhanced by the lead guitars. The basslines are crushing and there is once again plenty of double-bass support. While most of the track comes with a sluggish rhythm, the final third includes two parts at crazy pace with tight guitar riffs. “The Betterment Plan” includes a short pre-lude transitioning into grim guitar part introducing the main riff. The verse part of the track is played at a measured tempo focusing on a delivery of spine-chilling melodies, while the chorus parts switch to insane pace and tight Thrash Metal guitar riffs. The lead guitars contribute at the very end of the track and enhance the darkness of the melodies. “Mind/Tool/Weapon” is a track with changing tempo and rhythm. It is a triptych of measured tempo, mid-tempo, and crazy pace. The fast parts are the Thrash Metal inspired parts, while the slower parts include bone-chilling melodies. “Chaos Engine” starts with punishing riffs and crunching basslines leading into the verse part at mid-tempo. The track has more complexity than most album tracks due to the constant rhythm and tempo breaks. Highlight of the track is the first clean lead guitar solo right at the end.
“Recollections Of The Future” starts with a grim guitar-driven intro supported by spoken words transitioning into the verse part at mid-tempo with powerful guitar riffing and dark melodies. As with most tracks on the album, there is an abrupt twist in tempo with the chorus part being played at fast pace with Thrash Metal inspired guitar riffing. Jonas Kjellgren (IRONMASTER) supported the vocals on this track. “Obscurer” is a delivery of direct and aggressive guitar riffs with verse parts at mid-tempo and chorus parts at insane pace. The break includes staccato-type of guitar riffs accompanied by the relentless double-bass drumming as well as a short but contributing lead guitar solo. The album finishes with “Science Of Discontent” and the track reflects the album sound: Death Metal mid-tempo parts with chilling melodies alternate with fast and aggressive Thrash Metal inspired parts. The break offers a very cool lead guitar solo at a measured tempo. “Science Of Discontent” is a good way to end the album.
INHUMAN CONDITION deliver a good third album. “Mind Trap” is a good mixture of traditional Death Metal and Thrash Metal. The melodies are grim, and the fast Thrash Metal inspired parts offer aggression and intensity to the sound. All is kept well together by the vocals. The album is well produced. INHUMAN CONDITION have developed their very own and characteristic Death and Thrash Metal sound on their album and fans of both genres will be delighted with the songs on “Mind Trap”.
