Metal maniacs, rejoice! The Thrasher returns to present to you: INCANTATION; signed via Season Of Mist Records, hailing from the United States Of America - performing Death Metal on their reissue of their 1st Live Album, "Tribute To The Goat".
Since formation in 1989, the quintet in question have 10 studio albums behind them, along with multiple demos; EPs, splits, compilations and live albums. I'm acquainted with the "Tribute To The Goat" live album from 1997, in reissued format. What to make of INCANTATION? Well, they are a Death Metal quartet who specializes in Satanism, Occultism, Anti-Christianity, & Blasphemy. Sounds promising, right? Hell yes. Featuring multiple members and a sort of world record of holding the highest running number of different live members, you can bet that you'll get an utmost pummeling of Death Metal clarity. I always find that most Death Metal records end in the speed of light; easily repeated though, and this here album is no exception. The band is notorious in this sub-genre, that as a Death Metal purist, I'm shocked that I haven't checked them out already!
Consisting of John McEntee on Lead Guitar, proficiently showcases complex with pummeling riffs that elements at rhythmic structures of brutal proportions; Mike Saez also on guitar, forms a similar process. The powerhouse of Kevin Hudges on bass, and Kyle Severn on drums, prominently contribute finely to the sound production with exquisite elegance. And the vocalist, Craig Pillard, growls and grunts his way - forcefully with dexterity in mind. On the final portion of the reissue of "Tribute To The Goat" ...Sal Seijo on guitar, efficiently flies his fingers with adapt skill; Will Rahmer on vocals, produces more sufficient roughness in his chords, and the powerhouse of Ronnie Deo on bass and Peter Barnevic on drums, clarify the meaning behind Death Metal brutality. 12 tracks compile this album ranging at around 40:15. What's crazy about this record is - it's live but until tracks 9-12, and it deceivingly comes across as a studio record.
Right off the earphones - "Devoured Death", "Profanation", & "Unholy Massacre", begin and instantaneously makes you feel outrageously brutal. Pretty much simple as that; however, sound production purists may not feel too ecstatic from the get-go...keep in mind though, this is still an album from 1997, just in re-mastered format. "Blissful Bloodshower", "United In Repugnance", & "Nerfarious Warriors", keeps up this substance of brutality almost... hinting at a fusion with Black Metal slightly, progressively. "Twisted Sacrilegious Journey Into Our Darkest Neurotic Delirium", and the NECROPHAGIA cover of "Abomination" end that portion and all sounds raw, solid and stellar. Until we get to the portion with the tracks: "Devoured Death", "Entrantment of Evil", "Eternal Torture", & "Profanation", all sound a little distorted as if they were demos, which isn't a bad thing, just didn't sound too powerful for an enjoyable experience.
Overall - "Tribute To The Goat" was a finely crafted live album that simply divulged the consumer to feel absolutely brutal, simple as that. If you love your music like that, with no comprises; head back to the past and check this shit out!<
