Icarus Lives - Scorched Reprise album cover

This five piece metal band based in Perth Western Australia are known for the no frills stage presence they have, and certainly know how to deliver a memorable gig. You only have to read the many reviews to see that ICARUS LIVES are a band destined to make themselves well known in the metal world. Their initial album 'Vantablack'(2017) described them as "masters of metal." 2021 saw them do a cover of Bonnie Tyler's "Holding out for a hero" which earned certainly went down well with reviews, it also debuted their new vocalist Aria Scarlett who was noticed for the haunting way her vocals deliver.

"Scorched Reprise" opens up with the track "Secret Keeper", starting with a catchy guitar riff then heavy opening vocals this track sounds promising. The tempo of the drums and bass line seem to grab your attention from the start. Then enter the vocals of new singer Aria Scarlett and you seem to be caught in a spell before they then ascend to a much higher tone, showing she certainly has a high vocal range. It has a good stop start working within it and crosses from heavy underlying vocals then back again for the main verses and chorus. The inserted whisperings bring a haunting feeling as you immerse yourself within this track. The song keeps a cool heavy riff going through it and certainly grab your attention.

Next track up is "Linear" and kicks off with a classy guitar melody before the beating of the drums leave a steady pulsing beat. The clear vocals then kick in and the track moves up a gear, this sounds from the off the makings of a memorable piece. The clean/rough vocal harmonies work well together and Aria's main vocals at times are so haunting you can feel the hairs on your neck stand up. The bass of Chris Ayling is heavy and thick throughout and well delivered. Another classy track on this 3 track EP, a great piece that when it ends you're left wanting it to continue

This leads into the final track "Decomposure" which gives you more of the classy work that the previous tracks have already delivered. Kicking off with a hard hitting riff its not long before the brilliance of the vocals come in. The drums keep a tight well timed pace again and the stop start of the short guitar pieces def work well. A well worked guitar solo in the middle, and then the haunting vocals seem to transport you away to a surreal world where you wait in anticipation of whatever comes. This EP will certainly win them many fans and will surely set them on the path of a future well deserved. It works well in every sense and the vocals are just amazing to be honest. Certainly worth a listen to by anyone ,you wont be disappointed. I have to give this 10/10 as from first listening its captured me hook, line and sinker, and I will definitely be catching one of their shows when they eventually tour and head over to the United Kingdom.
