Night Club
Ibridoma
See the dazzling lights in the dark; it is warm inside, welcome to the night club. When I reached the entrance I expected to find a place swallowed by a rush of powerful music, yet I never thought that I would be heading towards an easy night out. Well I guess I did with the new release, via SG Records, of the Italian band IBRIDOMA named by the same imagery I was trying to daydream in, the "Night Club". Filling the air with Heavy Metal and bits of Hard Rock in the vein of the late 80s channeled by a cool and clean modern sound, I must admit that IBRIDOMA didn't exactly thrill me in full extent, yet they made me interested to see what more they will have in store. I am not stopping here; let me dig in the music beforehand.
Though I haven't had the chance to listen to the previous releases of the band, I am pretty positive that they have been composing their songs in the same manner of Metal flavored with Rock and will probably keep it even after "Night Club". The large part of the music provides shelter to mid tempo rhythms, classic Metal style riffing, Hard Rock type soloing that also has a little 70s kind of edge. The riffing was straightforward with no out of the line funny business. The lead section was pretty neat providing a series of striking licks. Nonetheless, I mostly liked the lead vocals, as I already had the chance to listen to the vocalist's high end voice pattern in a different Italian Metal band playing US Metal. Within "Night Club" it seemed to me that the vocal section was slightly suppressed thus not enabling it to become more energetic and less dry.
When it comes to the songs' structures, IBRIDOMA didn't go out of their way to show a difference between the songs. Most of the tracks, whether heavy or less, relied mainly on the chorus as a chief element for their success. It is just an assumption but I think that taking care of the chorus as the headline of each song isn't the only segment that should be noted. Songs like "Cold Light Of Moon", "Businessmen" and "Last Supper" were enticing and well written, especially with the powerful choruses, but I also saw great potential on some of the solos, and as a rhythm fan I also like more than a few of the main riffs, yet I believe that those should have been cared a lot for. These musicians must have more in their arsenal to create something that is a true killer.
