There so much lurking 'inside' the HOUSE OF LORDS name, that I somehow feel sorry for those declaring this band's another 'poser' Melodic Rock/AOR outfit. Through the years, whoever took the chance of letting his self get lost in the magic of HOUSE OF LORDS did eventually grab the prize. And I know many of these people...
I usually grab the shovel and start lashing when highly anticipated reunions turn it to be a one-man-band result with the classic name and a 'reference title' comeback album. Thankfully, HOUSE OF LORDS was not the case. Never. Power And The Myth (2004) saw the original lineup reuniting (meaning - mainly - the one and only Gregg Giuffria being behind the keys) but the album did not manage to clear out the thirst of the band's/style's loyal followers (more prog/70's-orientated than expected, maybe?). Fortunately, an once-again reunion offered World Upside Down and, even if Giuffria's role (if any) was extended only to the 'composing' section, this CD was worth the wait.
An aspect from 'the other side' would cry out there's no chance such killer songs can be written anno 2008. And - partially - this is true. Christian did achieve releasing an album that - in my ears, at least - sounds only tiny below the first three albums the band created in the 1989-1992 years, not confessing it could beat Demons Down down (sic). The 'classic' HOUSE OF LORDS keys atmosphere is 80% here (you know why). The scoring leads are present, Christian's vocal approach is immense and - half the deal - the bridges and choruses are really terrific! The same-titled track will grab your dreams and welcome you to another Pomp/Hard/Heavy kingdom where you will gratefully get lost in endless melodies, moody riffs, heart-touching tempos and...and...and...
One Touch, In A Perfect World, I Believe, I Need To Fly, Your Every Move, I Don't Wanna Wait All Night, The Dream, Another Day From Heaven help in the making of this wonderful tracklist, for an album that was produced by James Christian himself and mixed by Dennis Ward in November/December 2007. What an epic atmosphere, how majestic Hard Rock/AOR/Pomp tunes all these are over here...Baroque analysis may be needed to depict the 'traveling' aura of Come To My Kingdom, at times. Whoever's already familiar with the HOUSE OF LORDS deeds, he/she can rest assured this is money worth spent over. This band has (again) kept the promise: a valuable album in 'dark ages' for honest music, even if a couple of songs - especially at the end of the tracklist - would do no harm being left outside. But, if you expect a 10/10 album form HOUSE OF LORDS, you simply won't get it; merely, due to a change of seasons, you should always bear this in mind. So, stop grizzling and suppose this album was made to be (at least) worth...
