Italian Death Metalists, HORRID release their fourth album since returning from their short break in 2011. This is the third in a row that has been produced with Dunkelheit Produktionen.

In 1988, Belfagor and Max formed the band. They adopted the name RITES OF DEATH, aspiring to sound like bands such as HELLHAMMER and CELTIC FROST. One year later the name was changed in HORRID. The first releases (demo tapes) were issued in 1992 and 1994, "Eternal Suffering" and "You Are Mine" respectively. Another promo tape was recorded in 1993, although it did not see the light until 2009 on Terror from Hell Records. Each cassette generated interest among various labels, so in 1996 the band released the 7-inch vinyl "Awaiting for the Truth" under Cryptic Soul Production. Three years later HORRID entered the legendary Sunlight Studio in Stockholm to record their second EP "Blasphemic Creatures", released by Behind The Mask Records. The mini album became an underground classic and gave Horrid the chance to sign a deal with Deadsun Records for the release of their first full length "Reborn In Sin" in 2002. Shortly thereafter, in 2006, the band received attention from Xtreem Music and released its second full album "Rising from the Hidden Spheres". In June 2013 the band entered again Sunlight Studio in Sweden to record its third full length with Tomas Skogsberg. The resulting work, entitled "Sacrilegious Fornication", is an eight songs album of raw and dark old school death metal, plus a cover of HELLHAMMER's classic "Massacra". The album was released in April 2014 by the German underground label Dunkelheit Produktionen. With a brand new line up, the band recorded and released the album "Beyond the Dark Border", once again for Dunkelheit Produktionen.

"Reborn in Sin" starts with a good buildup, does not take long to start going through the gears. The aggressive vocal outbursts work well alongside the instrumentalists to create melodies. The pace set is high, but remains controlled and balanced throughout. There is point around 4-minutes in where you think the song is going to end, but it allows a great solo to kick in, the instrumentalists take over and blend harmonically. The trick is almost repeated again, but it allows the break of pace and sound to add volume to the song. Solid finish! "Misunderstood God" is a heavier start, which takes you by surprise, which is a good thing. This one is higher on the tempo scale. You know because it is a shorter song it will not change as much, but this is a great sound, so you do not want it to change, enough melodies together make the harmonic feel of the song progress the sound perfectly.

"Redemption and Lies" kicks off in similar vain to "Misunderstood God". The Thrash aspects seeping through once more. The vocals have remained in balance and have been controlled throughout the album so far, as is once again working in perfection alongside the instrumentalists. The harmonic melodies that are running riot have been put together so well and the overall feel to the album has worked brilliantly. "Demonic Sadocarnage" continues the Thrash level pace perfectly. The feel has been laid down in the last few songs, but you can hear the difference in styles. This has the Death elements in the vocals, it is clear to see how their approach has become not only their influence, but their style. This is their own sound; even if we have heard, others down the line run their own.

"Immortal Passion" is going the same way as "Demonic Sadocarnage" but slowing it down a bit more; tempo is now just a steady beat. The pace picks up a little midway through the song, but not to the levels, we had been hearing. This is not a bad thing as we can appreciate the elements here for the melodic aspects from the instrumentalists. The melody feels more Melo Death than anything else in the final minute, not sure why the change, but works to give the song new life. "From Here to Eternity" returns to the Death Metal feel that vast majority of the album has contained. The Thrash tempo that we have enjoyed thus fare is here and is kicking out some awesome melodies. The vocals have remained successfully hitting the mark throughout this album.  The feel of this song has a much higher tempo again, which shows exactly how the band are approaching their own sound. The tempo is ticking over and in doing so is allowing the melody to be stretched out, growing in power and hitting the levels we want it to

"Blasphemic Creatures" just continues nicely from where "From Here to Eternity" left off. The tempo has remained in full force. The aggression in this song has overtaken many others, it still is composed well and remain in balance, but it feels like it is trying to tear its way out. The song is one of the shortest on the album, so it doesn't change its stance or approach, but you are very grateful; for this and you can enjoy the song. "Vortex of Primordial Chaos" this certainly has that CANNIBAL CORPSE (old School) vibe about it. The death growls are certainly taking over the vocals on this one. This song takes all the good aspects of the album, throws it in the mixer and throws it all over the walls. It is heavy, fast and frantic.

"Land of No Return" has slowed the tempo down again, showing the band's control of their own sound. The tempo does pick back up, but not to the Thrash ranges, however it allows you to appreciate everything you have heard so far and know that the changes work. The balance of sound versus technical skills in on display again as you do not think anything was just thrown together for the sake of it. "As We Forget Our Past" slows things down once more. The tempo is still in the background kicking around. It is clearly slowing down the album to a close, but this allows you to see and hear the full talent. You can appreciate what has gone into this album, it shows the control the band has.

Overall, it's a solid album. Can't see any faults, just passion and talent running wild. Its Death Metal and Thrash put together that pair up perfectly. It has the old school vibes on full display
