Dogfingers Recordings presents the album debut of the band from San Antonio (Texas) HOGBITCH which is self titled. This band formed in 2012, describes themselves as ur-metal/heavy psychedelic this: "ur-: a prefix meaning earliest, original, used in words denoting the primal stage of a historical culture phenomenon or entity. Metal: energetic, highly amplified rock music Characterized by a heavy beat, Often Accompanied by dark lyrics with fantastic imagery."
Its four members bring together the best musicians in the underground scene in San Antonio: Suzy Bravo (SUZY BRAVO & THE SOUL REVUE, HAMMERED); Sanford Allen (BOXCAR SATAN, EVIL MOTHERS); Patrick Sane (BOXCAR SATAN, EVIL MOTHERS) and Chip Alexander (MARTYRED, EVIL MOTHERS, PSYCHOHOLICS).
Bells kicking off the first song "Queen" followed by the powerful voice of their front woman do see from the beginning the boss in this album followed by the explosion of what will be the signature sound of this band, their bright guitars and melodic accompany this that elapses between strength and sensuality. The second song "Thrown to the Sky" has a brutal harmony between low that handles the melodic basis of this song and the guitars as accompaniment. The third song "Black Corridor" is intermediate with a touch more soul, harmony, and relaxation that gives this album something psychedelic, guitar solo rapid and acute Intermediate. The fourth song "Hameh" something dark shimmery, but something progressive. The fifth song "Never", with strong rhythms between the chorus and verses but following the same line of the album, ending with "Life Begins and Ends in the Subterranean Oceans of Beings" has its very own new age. Consistent between rhythm and lyrics something spiritual, one's own astral projections and the occult. Although not my personal taste, this kind of "brutality", I recognize that it is a new resurgence of rock that evoked what oscurto led psychedelia.
Their debut album contains 6 tracks that combine loud early psychedelic rock with PATTI SMITH and DEEP PURPLE sound with the dark drama of BLACK SABBATH. The voice of the front woman embodies many elements of soul combined with ultra heavy riff, reminiscent of early HELLOWEEN Heavy Metal. Their lyrical themes transcend from Greek mythology until science fiction also, with best dark style magic stories. Is like those combined with dark fantastic imaginaries, and elements of the new age and the occult as supernova and solar magic. Their performance contains some elements of funk and punk and vintage fashion. The cover painting was made by Chris Panatier's "Axecutrix".
