Hinder - When The Smoke Clears album cover

Having been a fan of HINDER since 2009, I was excited at the chance to review their latest album "When The Smoke Clears". Unaware of the replacement of previous vocalist Austin Winkler, I noticed a slight change in sound to their previous albums. Although the vocals of Marshal Dutton give the music almost a lighter tone, I think he's done a great job in this new
album.

HINDER to me, have always been basic Hard Rock that's hard not to enjoy, and this album has continued to offer both great feel-good tracks like "Hit The Ground" to more serious tracks such as "Dead To Me" and "If Only For Tonight". Their music has always had an Anthem style sound to it which makes it even more enjoyable. For example 'Wasted Life' embraces those tuneful and sing-along style choruses that has been a part of their music since the beginning. For me, the best track on this album was "Intoxicated" which reminded me of that classic sleazy theme and heavier sound that HINDER would always include in their albums. Sometimes, straight-up energy and rowdiness can be what makes a band so enjoyable as seriousness doesn't always have to be involved! I loved the sixth track "Dead To Me" since it's got so much volume to the song. Epic choruses, crunchy riffing and vocals to fit the tone perfectly. I love the combination of both reflective themed songs and fun tracks.

Although I mentioned how HINDER do sound slightly different with Marshal Dutton, I have to say that he really works with the band. This album was a great listen and reassured me that a new vocalist doesn't mean the whole band will change their sound completely! For fans of THEORY OF A DEAD MAN, SHINEDOWN and BUCKCHERRY, this album should really appeal!
