Welcome To Hell Valley High
Hell Valley High
Hell Valley High is a groove-driven heavy rock band, based in Utrecht, The Netherlands. The quintet combines thick, heavy riffing, throbbing bass parts and pounding drums with powerful vocals and punk rock energy. The band’s music is inspired by the likes of Fu Manchu, Truckfighters, Red Fang, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Karma to Burn, Kyuss, Monster Magnet and Black Sabbath. Hell Valley High is comprised of seasoned musicians who have played a lot of shows in The Netherlands and toured Europe extensively. The group features ex-members of Wildebeast, Filthy Felons, Note to Amy, The Unsinkable, Apehanger, Rene SG, Junkyard Safari, Bullpen and AllunderAge and is ready to take the stage.
“Clean Slate” opens this album clearly evident are the fore mentioned influences some great fuzzy guitar riffs, with the track gaining momentum around the 1min 30 sec mark becoming more energetic ,a deep bass backline adding depth, drums and guitar with energy .”To Each His Own” is a track full of simple heavy melodies, meaty guitar riffs ,a solid rhythm section with vocals which are not over sung, ”Future Nomads” has that grungy feel to it with a catchy punk style chorus. ”Easy Rider” is 8 plus minutes long track with a mighty groove bass line from the offset the bass & drums are very tight interlaced with some gritty guitar riffs & solo, for me there is a lot of modern influences fused with some also classic influences, my favourite track on the album, with a stoner, psychedelic feel. ”Blameless” has that Sabbath within the melody and guitar riffs & runs, without sounding too copycat & cliché, with Hell Valley High putting their own modern twist & sound throughout the, track. ”Send Me A Postcard” is actually a cover by a band called Shocking Blue from 1968 which without research I would not have known ,a very bass and guitar driven track with Hell Valley High making the track sound very current and modern with their great version. ”One O One” is a great modern punk/metal track with some grunge thrown into the mix, another cool track with some nice vocals. ”The Grind” ending off this 8 track album with again the bass & drums very tight delivering some great dynamics & depth to the track.
Hell Valley High “Welcome To Hell Valley” was a enjoyable listen which was recorded live in the studio, so there's that raw sound and energy which I thin k adds character to this record and authenticity, there's no gimmicks or glossy production which is cool to hear. The balance between classic and modern influences is captured well. There is no diversity style wise though but still a good listen for fans of stoner rock and modern alternative rock.
