This Place Only Brings Death

Heart of a Coward

I find the band’s take on it to be inventive and fresh. Melodies are often overdone in formulas that can plague the genre. Instead, the crop up at surprising times, washing the filth away for just a few bars. But it’s that filth that most listeners will connect with, and it is glorious.

From their EPK, “At its core, “This Place Only Brings Death” contemplates the inevitable theme of all comes to an end, a sobering reality explored through their masterful music. This unique blend of accessibility and thematic intensity presents a fresh take on the band's signature style, marking a crucial milestone in their evolving musical journey.” The album has 10 songs, and the title track is first. The backbone of the song is very heavy, aggressive, and contentious, and the backing elements are thick too. Unlike a lot of Metalcore, there are no clean vocals to temper the harshness.

The clean vocals first appear in “Captor.” “Surrender to Failure” is a short three minute blast of intensity, which is a feature of the genre. The band also plays very tightly within unforgiving arrangements that do not allow them to make a mistake. “Devour Me” has some electronica, and some weighted background elements. Even when the cleans come in along with some melody, the heavy nature of the music will not be overtaken. “Ghost” is a little longer, so some of the intensity can be augmented with a bit more melody. A darkness runs throughout this song though, like the title suggests.

“HEX” is much more punishing, and I find the band’s use of electronica gives the music and Industrial edge…a sterile, clean death, like a blade so sharp that it cuts through flesh and bone with a single swing. “Passenger” is also brutally punishing, but some melody washes away a bit of the filth. The harmonies in the chorus are great as well…very catchy. “All Life is Finite” closes the album. It rattles with a punishing bottom end edges with great melodies. Overall, although this genre has been done many times before, I find the band’s take on it to be inventive and fresh. The melodies are overdone in formulas that can plagues the genre. Instead, the crop up at surprising times, washing the filth away for just a few bars. But it’s that filth that most listeners will connect with, and it is glorious.
