Hailing from Santiago, Chile, HEADFIST is making us feel better by bringing us the second EP "This New World" with their own music. Somehow the first one, simply called "Headfist", has eluded me. Band leader Cristobal Perez is looking for the right people with the balls to take up his challenge and go the whole hog without chickening out. Something that he claims has happened more than once before now.
What makes finding out about HEADFIST is that the social media pages are quite sparsely informed, or not existent at all. A Google search doesn't help either, so those are areas that Cristobal Perez and his compadres really need to work on. Otherwise he can try what hew wants, his music will not find a way out his own home town. And I can't imagine that such will be enough for him.
So, what is it that you expect from these South American Metal fashionistas? It is a mix between, Heavy, Speed and Thrash Metal, with all the elements that all three these sorts of music usually bring to our ears. But what gives HEADFIST that little bit extra is the intensity and drive behind the execution of these recordings. No way someone with half a mind has made this. No, this is a band with a purpose, with something to prove. And whoever jumps on this bandwagon with Cristobal Perez will have to be sure that they are willing to give it their all.
It doesn't hurt that he is able to write good songs. He obviously knows what he is good at, which direction he wants to take, and not afraid to point it out to the world and beyond. You can take any song on "This New World" and try and find fault, and you wouldn't be able to. Not only that, the sound is more than adequate, almost pure CD quality. Who am I kidding, this sounds bloody good.
This is for those people not afraid to discover new bands, whether they play new music or are rehashing older stuff. I can't say which one HEADFIST fits more. I would say that they are a combination of both. You will hear enough references to the past, but you will also hear enough to firmly put them in the twenties of the twenty-first century. Let's hope they get their accessibility sorted. It will certainly help to allow more people to enjoy HEADFIST and "This New World".
