Gozu - Revival album cover

GOZU was born in 2008 in Boston Massachusetts U.S.A. with their debut EP release. After a lineup change, GOZU released their debut full length album "Locust Season" in 2010 then released their second full length album in 2012 "The Fury of a Patient Man". GOZU has had songs placed in the NBC T.V. show "AWAKE", MTV's "The Dudesons" and "Road Rules" along with NASCAR (racing) and Fuse TV. They have also been the recipient of or nominated for many awards. Now they are back with their release "Revival". This album comes in with eight tracks and has a listening time of 42 minutes.

The opening track "Nature Boy" immediately gives off a radio ready rock. The music is mellow enough to be on the radio, while still keeping some fantastic melodies. The vocals are a mixture I think, of something like Chris Cornell and Ozzy Osbourne. A very interesting mix, but super unique. Track two "Bubble Time" has the same feeling, just a deeper darker tone. It has a little bit more of a bite and littler more Southern Rock feel the leads beautifully into track three "Big Casino" which has an interesting Alternative Rock mechanisms meets Southern Rock grit. It's a fantastic listen and one of the most unique tracks on the album. The vocals help expand the already solid musical elements throughout this track.

"Lorenzo Llamas" is an excellently executed track. Being the second to longest track there is lots of room for an over two minute instrumental intro and instrumental interludes throughout the track. It's also a little more technicalities in this track while keeping it a little more on the gloomy side. Track eight "By Mennen" is musically my favorite track on the album. It gives a deeper aspect to what these guys can do musically. The intro is astounding. I love how they keep that dark low tuned sound throughout the entire track. The vocals are also more gritty and maybe more spoken in this track. There is so much here that each time you listen to it, you will find a new element you didn't hear before.

The final track "Tin Chicken" is a much lighter track, with a much higher sang vocal, to start. It does intensify as the track progresses. Being the longest track on the album at just over eight minutes, there is room for lots of rhythm and tone changes, and these guys are experts at it. GOZU are experts at keeping the integrity of a track together through rhythm and tone changes through out this album. While listening, I had an excitement to hear what would come next. While there are some wonky production elements, "Revival" musically, blurs the line between Hard Rock and Heavy Metal that much more. Check it out.
