The Other Side

Fancy some easy listening, with no intellectual claims and kitsch attitude record? Here we are with the latest GOTHMINISTER release "The Other Side," out for AFM Records. Norwegian by blood but artistically nourished in Germany (as the dual language vocals will suggest), GOTHMINISTER have been proposing since the beginning an electronic gothic rock recipe, with all the clichés and traits of this genre, with mixed results but never losing their vein and spoken out attitude.
"The Other Side" is completely launched towards this direction, winking with a couple of good tracks to the German audience. First single "Ich Wil Alles" starts the release with an epic intro, heavy and harsh guitars, standing on some techno carpets. Bjørn Alexander Brem deep vocals lead the way to a catchy refrain that completes this favorable mix that will light up their audience. "Red Christ" outlines a more metal vein in the Norwegians; "The Sun" is a trendy track, with female voice laying on some electronic bases. Best example in the use of electronics might be "All This Time" where the powerful base introduces an appealing refrain. Other dangerously sticking track is "Taking Over": if any flaw might be found in GOTHMINISTER nothing can be said about their cunning ability in pushing the right buttons to catch listeners' attention.
GOTHMINISTER aren't certainly selling you the Queen's jewels: their trinkets might work in the surface, certainly not in the depth and there's not much to discover under the upper layers. Golden and shiny, this The Other Side might work well for an ephemeral listening or some goth culture nostalgic: there seems to be an intelligent design behind this, laid down to intercept a certain and specific niche and it may justify a similar attitude.
