Hilarity and sheer outrageousness are the two words that spring to mind when listening to GORGONCHRIST's new release "And Justice for Balls". As we have come to expect from this band, we get a huge dose of tongue in cheek humour and some very (in)appropriately named tracks. Extreme black metal isn't new to the game of ghastly lyrics and raging musicianship as the musical style and comedic value of bands such as FOOTPRINTS IN THE CUSTARD and ANAL C*NT have proved before. It is the extreme nature of the genre that gets people's attention and the gimmick remains a talking point no matter how long it has been since you last listened to it.

The entirety of the album in question here is filled full of a harsh timbre and guitars and vocals and rather uniquely groovy drum style considering the genre. Don't let the lack of seriousness fool you, there are some memorable sections within this album which may take a few by surprise. However, "Toaster Inferno" starts off the album how you'd expect; black metal style riffs and highly aggressive vocal that screech through the mix. What this album does is provide some great riffing amongst the comical angst that ensues throughout. "I Cum Brulee" is not only a nod to the great CANNIBAL CORPSE, but a haven of riffing that headbangers will love. However, the next song on the album "Anal Civilisations" carries this trend on with a lengthy masterpiece of sheer gutturals and high pitched shrieking along with moshpit inducing riffs that will destroy a Richter scale. The absurdity flows throughout the entire album and it is what makes fans love them and "Monkey Pump" is a track that disconcerts people as much as it makes them want to headbang with its riffs that change very suddenly and a very evil overarching theme. Perhaps the best, and most popular track of theirs has been left until last. "Dr. Lovefire" definitely introduces itse;f as a sludge/death metal track, but the guitar harmonies and the atmosphere definitely threaten to move into the Thall realm of metal. Its hard to predict where this song may end up, when listening to it for the first time, but it is one hell of a way to end an album.
