Gorgatron - Agony Reborn album cover

GORGATRON hails from Fargo, North Dakota and has taken their name from a character on the show Aqua Teen Hunger Force. The band started out in 2005 and released their first demo in 2008, followed by a full length album in 2010 titled Torturetorium. In 2014 they returned with another album Inner Supremacy before not releasing anything again until 2020. Starting with a new and current lineup, they released some singles before the album Pathogenic Automation came upon us. The band put out a live version of that titled track as a single earlier in 2022 before finishing up this four track EP.

The demo starts off with the track"Agony Reborn", the opening song is just a short build up before the galloping guitars demolish the silence. The highlight of the track is the guitars for sure, it is a riff fest from beginning to end with a lot of variations and ultra quick picking. The drums are a catalyst for the set tempo and is ultimately in control at all times as the vocals portray a picture of grotesque torture and mutilations of surgical precision. The next track up is "The Unwilling" and starts out with a duo of guitar and bass played over some cymbal work that resembles a ticking time bomb before being overtaken by double bass. The track plays out nicely with times in which the vocals, matched to the music, sounds like a story is being read to you, The bass has a giant tremble throughout the song, while a mix of a blistering tempo and chunky guitar riffs round out this solid death metal track.

The cover track of SEPULTURA's "Dead Embryonic Cells" breathes new life into the song, giving the already great track a kick in the ass right from the beginning. The production is what elevates this song up, matched with the aggressive approach taken to the cover, the band shows  that they really wanted to nail the cover and give it its due diligence, which they accomplish. This is a short but sweet offering from this veteran band and shows that they still have a plate at the table of death metal. Really enjoyed the first two tracks showcasing the factory of riffs they are capable of and very solid song writing. The vocals are layered over top of the music perfectly, matching it step by step along the tracks. A successful taste of what is hopefully more to come in the new year from these guys.
