Lullabies from Hell

Golden Serpent

In this review, I explore the themes and instrumentation presented in this album.
November 19, 2025

"Lullabies from Hell" is the debut album of Greek death metal band Golden Serpent. It was released via Sleazy Rider records on September 12, 2025, and features 10 pummeling, in your face tracks. This album goes into the darkest depth of death metal to produce a record which I would liken to a more black metal ascethetic as far as the themes go. One of the standout tracks on this album, "God Ends Here" is a fast and furious song, as most of them are. It starts with a quick guitar riffs and staccato drumming which reminds you of a machine gun being fired. The vocals from Asmodeus are vile and evil, yet mesh incredibly well with the outstanding instrumentation on display here. "Silence in Heaven" is another standout song here. Since this band combines elements of both black metal and death metal, much of the lyrics are satanic in nature. This song explores themes of the lack of God's existence in Heaven, and questioning why anyone would believe. The drumming from Evil Dead is frenetic once again, and the vocal range is incredible.

This song bleeds into "Golden Serpent" which, to me, sounds like a very apocalyptic song. Visions of Hell and of an apocalyptic future without a God or painted before you on this song. The way the song plays, it sounds like the demons of hell surfacing and destroying the world. "Satan's Wrath" is the opening track on this hellish LP, and I especially like the drumming on this song. The drumming, by far, is my favorite aspect of the entire record. The song is talking about Satan coming down and unleashing his wrath onto earth during some kind of apocalyptic event. It's a very much in your face song that sets the dark and evil tone for the rest of the tracks. Finally, we have "Broken Halo" which has an epic guitar riff in the beginning combined with the sound of crashing symbols. That beat maintains in the background of the entire song, underneath layered vocals and bass tones. The artistry on display here is incredible.

I didn't necessarily like how muddled the vocals sometimes were beneath the rest of the instruments. While I think the instrumentation if the best part of the album, I would have liked to hear the vocals even more. This is the perfect example of just straight up, no holds bar death metal. It's a very in your face record that's not only in your face with the music but also in your face with the themes that are presented here, themes that very much so are presented in death metal. Themes of loss, death, Satanism and abandonment of God which, I believe, we all feel. Overall, the record is a shining example of the best of death metal, though there are a few things that didn't quite work for me. But it's also because some straight up death metal like this I am not a fan of, nor am I a fan of black metal. So I can't detract points for the album if the style was necessarily my thing. The album did it's job the best way it knew how.
