The Way It Burns
Ginger Evil

The Origins of this Finnish band Ginger Evil goes back some 20 years when Tomi Yulkunen and Veli Palevaara were writing songs for their band Moonshine Inc .However they shelved the project due not be able to find a suitable singer. The duo went on to do their main project The Milestone they released their fifth studio called “Beautiful Light” in 2019 after this release The Moonshine Inc project resurfaced and again saw the light of day after Yulkunen and Palevaara found singer Ella Tepponen and drummer Toni Mustonden and formed the band under the new name Ginger Evil .The band signing for Frontiers Music now after 20 years in the making bring us their debut album,
“Rainmaker” is pleasing opening track with modern hard rock roots with Ella delivering a solid vocal, the rhythm section tight, with the guitar the main driving force behind the track some solid chords and a stellar solo.”Dead On Arrival” is a Foo Fighters style track, with solid vocals and a solid guitar driven track.”Shame Old” carries on with pretty much the same formula as the previous tracks before “Flames” is a change in musical direction softer in style, full of solid harmonies a rock ballad with some smooth rhythms, and a chilled laid back feel with some Fleetwood Mac vibes.”Hands Move To Midnight” has a bluesy rock feel with a strong vocal led chorus.”Arrowhead” is a love song with poignancy with some beautiful keys and acoustic guitar touches with some gorgeous vocals by Ella Tepponen.“Better Get In Line” is a punchy rock track with infectious riffs with a mellow break before its breaks back to the former infectious melody to bring the track home.”Black Waves” chugs along nicely with multi layered vocals in parts of the track. “Whispers” for me is has an Alanis Morissette feel to the melody and vocals chilled laid back but has grit with great rhythm and vocals.”Not Your Fool” is another great modern rock gem with Ella Tepponen leading the way with a gritty vocal as is “Last Frontier” very soulful vocals with Tomi Yulkunen not slacking with great guitar runs & riffs.”Wake Me” is a semi acoustic ballad which brings the album to a close with a mesmerising beautiful vocal.
Ginger Evil deliver a solid debut album which is great listen,The album has great rhythm and melodies Tomi Yulkunen delivers some great guitar driven tracks with Ella Tepponen delivering some superb vocals, with the album having top notch production. There is nothing new or groundbreaking musically ,but they are really good at what they do and I feel that this is just the start a great band with buckets load of potential.
