Black Metal band FUNERAL WINDS was founded in 1991 in The Netherlands. From their Facebook page, "FUNERAL WINDS was born in 1991 to spread terror among the living, to vomit in the face of god, to live the Black Metal Cult...Inspired by the old bands VENOM, HELLHAMMER, BATHORY, SODOM, and MAYHEM, and the never ending dedication to Satan. "Sinister Creed" is their fourth full-length album, and contains eight tracks.

"The Road to Perdition" leads off the album. Following some ominous opening tones, the song slams in with full force. It's a speedy affair, and the thrashy riffs almost border on the Punk genre. The vocals and in the traditional Black Metal method, undiscernible for the most part but not overly high and shrieky. "Cursed in this Pantheon of Flesh" has a harrowing sound of pure evil. All instruments are fully on deck, including blast beat drumming and fast picked guitar riffs. The vocals are intense, gut-wrenching laments that could fill the halls of the Underworld by tortured souls. "The Arrival" is a shorter track with just as much of that fervor as we hear in previous tracks. The (session) drummer sure has a lot of demands as s/he keeps an impossibly fast pace.

The title track is, in fact, the shortest on the album. It's three minutes of pummeling brutality that sound like a nefarious pact made in the darkness of the full moon. "Blood" brings even more chaos into the fold. The blast beats are at break-neck speed here and Hellchrist's screams threaten to awaken an army of the dead. "Black Moon over Saturn" pauses for a slower introduction which allows the evil of the track to flourish. Rage and hatred abound, and it's an ode to all things that lurk below. "Sakhmet," in Egyptian mythology, was "a warrior goddess as well as goddess of healing. She is depicted as a lioness, the fiercest hunter known to the Egyptians. It was said that her breath formed the desert. She was seen as the protector of the pharaohs and led them in warfare." Though the vocal screams are very guttural, you can hear him utter her name.

"Nunc et in Hora Mortis Nostrae" translates in English to part of a fundamental Catholic prayer, "blessed art thou among women, blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. It's over seven minutes of a sound that is the antithesis to this prayer. Continuation of this sound could summon demons into your listening space. This is everything that is good about Black Metal. Intense evil stirs the Hordes of Hades deep below the gates of Hell, rallying all troops to rise and take over the kingdom of man. Though it lacks a modern flair, it's black enough to eat the souls of all fans in the genre.
