Funeral Fullmoon - Poetry of the Death Poison album cover

Little is known about this one-man project from Chile, other than the fact that he formed in 2019. He has no Facebook page or Bandcamp page. But, this is his second release in 2020, and is titled "Poetry of the Death Poison," and contains four songs. The title track leads us off. It's a nine-minute beast. The sound is slow and soaking, like a poison would be...it takes a while to slowly kill you. Bells ring in the deep. There are also more cymbals used than actual drumming at first, but then the blast beats come. It slows even more towards the end, with dissonant guitars.

"Beyond the Pain" is a six-minute song, with some of the same sounds as the previous track. The vocals are vile and harrowing, and the riffing is about what you would expect from a modeling of the First Wave of Black Metal bands. It's just not very diverse or creative. "Nokturnal Prayer" opens with some laughing. The production is so raw here that it sounds like it was recorded on a four-track player. I get the band is going for that filthy Black Metal sound, but some improvements in the production could go a long way.

The nine-minute closing song is titled "In the Night of Dark Ruins." It begins with some light rain and thunder, along with some dark piano notes. The piano increases slightly in volume towards the end, then it drops to just the falling rain. It's an interesting closing song...at least a break from all the screaming. Overall, this was just OK for me. It stayed too much in the traditions that started the genre many years ago. This sound has been done, and done again, and overdone. Truthfully, I'd like to hit the reset button on the FWOBM, at least until an artist is willing to expand it.
